Nas ataxias hereditárias, as funções cognitivas são afetadas?

Não. Algumas células do sistema nervoso degeneram, mas tal não interfere com a capacidade mental, memória ou controle emocional, pois as partes correspondentes no cérebro não são afetadas. Ou seja, não há deterioração mental.
