Coping & Appearance Tips
Hi
Just thought I'd share this as it may help someone..
I've had alopecia areata for almost 9 months. I first noticed my hair falling out back in July. At first I started off with a small patch by the nape of my neck. It wasn't on my hairline so I wasn't worried at first. Over the months, it got bigger and bigger and in Decemer I found 2 other patches. I visited a dermatologist in January and had steroid injections. They helped on the largest area by the nape of my neck but not on the other 2 patches. Since then, they have more than tripled in size, and now, altogether I have around 15 patches.. Some large, some small.
The one place I was terrified of getting patches was in my fringe.. Low and behold, I now have 4 in my fringe so I now have to keep my hair tied back.
I searched the internet desperately for something, anything, I could try to cover my patches, or make them less obvious.. I came across something called Courve. It's a cream and you can buy it to match your hair colour. Mine is dark brown. I paid £18 for it and without sounding too dramatic, I will say it has changed my life! I squeeze a small amount onto the applicator sponge that came with it and dab it onto my patches. It stays on my head until I wash my hair, it won't come off with water, only with shampoo.
After buying this, my confidence is back to where it was. Obviously it doesn't make your hair grow back but it covers my patches really well and they are far less noticeable now and I feel like I'm able to be me again.
It obviously only works for people who have patchy hair loss like me, but I thought I'd post my experience of it, as I know how it feels being depressed and wishing your hair would grow back. I worry about my hair a lot less now that I've found this cream!
xx
