Hi all, I hope someone can help me. I've was in AF for long time, fortunately in the last 18 month I've manged to get it under control. I went from 10mg of bisoprolo which made me like a zombie, to 1.25mg. I now only take an extra one now and again if I go into AF. Recently my cardiologist has told me to take another 1.25mg. I don't know if this is ghe pills, but I'm now feeling tired out of breath can walk less than I could before, I feel dizzy and get very hot and faint when I try to go shopping. What do people think pills or not pills.
Thanks in advance

Bisoprolol is intolerable for some of us with side effects that you mention. It’s good that you have managed to get AF under control, but not good that your quality of life is suffering. Bisoprolol made my life a misery.
I can’t advise on meds. as not medically trained, but l think you need to go back to your cardiologist and discuss the way you feel or, better still, ask to be referred to EP who specialises in arrhythmia. Going private is quicker.
I don’t know if you have tried any other drugs, but there are lots of alternatives, so if you think it is the side effects of Bisoprolol, l would ask for a review. Good luck and well wishes.
Take this back to your cardiologist so that they can adjust your medication or use an alternative that suits you better, there is normally choice. I take 10mg Bisoporal and other meds and some days feel iffy but it soon passes however if yours are affecting you whilst out shopping etc., then thats not good. Ring his/her secretary.
I was taken off Bisoprolol on advice if respiratory Consultant. It wasn't till I came off the tablet I realised its side effects for me ie tiredness, I can't remember what I was put on at that stage but I ended up on Flecainide with Diltiazem which suited me drug wise for many years until I ended up with an ablation when my AF episodes increased which worked for me.
What is your pulse rate, I was on 1.25 bisoprolol twice a day b4 my Ablation, a week after my pulse was 40 to 42 went to A and E they suggested not to take any more, I felt like u , now all ok pulse running about 58 _60 most of the time , I'm 82 now , my pulse has always been slow from school days , as was always in the gym, hopefully u will get it sorted, good luck 👍
My cardiologist for Lone PAF no comorbidities and active is not a fan of Bisoprolol. Instead he just put me on Flecainide and this has worked well with no HR scares.
To be honest I didn't really understand. I told him I was doing well, but he said 1.25 wasn't enough to support my heart. Im seeing him again in three week ill have questions to ask.
Just seems odd, if your AF is controlled, unless there's something else he's concerned about. I was in Bisoprolol for 3 months at the start of my AF adventure and I felt awful and insisted I was taken off it.
I struggled to get upstairs, I was so breathless and could only walk about 50m before having to stop.
You don’t say why cardiologist recommended upping your dose of Biso. Sounds as if the previous regime suited you much better. Once I knew my heart was in good shape (after echo) I abandoned any beta blockade in favour of an ACE-inhibitor for blood pressure alone, but my occasional PAF episodes have always reverted to NSR within half an hour, so PIP intervention is pointless in my case.
Dizzy, hot and faint could be low BP or an anxiety response. You need to know which to pinpoint the cause, the first points to the drug (perhaps), the second to the way your mind is responding to physical feelings.
well I can’t tell you to not do what your cardiologist tells you to do., although I’m fighting the same situation.
I feel great when I get up in the morning I take my a fib medication. My stomach hurts. I feel dizzy. I’m so tired of feeling like this. I’m getting a second opinion. From another echo physiologist…. I listen to my body and something isn’t right.
I hope you can get it sorted out. I feel your pain.
I’ve been on Bisoprolol 1.25 for 5 months and they have made me feel really ill. I’m in the process of slowly weaning myself off of them (not easy) and once done that will only use Pill in the Pocket method.
You and your doctor are the best judge. In my opinion, are you looking for quality of life or quantity of life. I have chosen quality and here’s where I’m going with this. We all have an expiration date, some are shorter than others. I would much rather pass earlier, being able to think clearly and function than to be laid up in a bed snowed on god knows how much medication not realizing anything. Just my two cents.
Ask to change to Brand equivalent of Bisoprolol, which is Generic. Bisoprolol is giving you the side effects because of the Inactive ingredients it contains. Both are now the same price as the Patent has now run out. Shortage of supply for Brand may, however, be a problem and you may have to wait.
Bisoprolol is a treatment for other heart complaints. It is a first line drug for Heart Failure for example. It makes the heart's work easier. Maybe there's some ther reason your cardio thinks a higher dose is a good idea? Won't know til you ask.
I think you should speak with your doctor and explain the way you felt before he/she increased it. You know your body and though he is a doctor he may think this increase may work for you. Short story for context. Am the caregiver for my husband and he does have an amazing cardiologist but what works for one patient does not mean it works for others. He perscripted Farciga, siprolectone and I can tell you that my husband started feeling weak with low blood pressure and not even able to get up of bed from the dizziness, sleeping all day and night and from the weakness. All this was happenning once christmas through New Years. Little to say my husband's exact words were I feel my life going away from me. He was bad so we discontinued both those medicine and within 2 to 3 days my husband was a different person. He was able to get out off of bed and alert and not sleeping all day & night. We call the cardiologist and told him little to say the meds that was not right for him was Farciga. So with that being said that medicine may be working good for the other patients but not for my husband. You are your best advocate so please meet with your cardiologist and explain to him what your body is saying to you. Best of luck
