cardiac ablation

I had my second ablation 5 days ago. Before that, I had covid. Was experiencing lingering effects, including cough, dizziness and cognitive issues. The cough is gone but I’m having chest pain and cognitive issues compounded by the anesthesia.(?) Anyone else experiencing this? If so, how long does it last? Having more difficulty recovering this time around.

Thank you! Very helpful 🙏

Take a look at the last “Pinned Post” to the right of this page headed Preparing and Recovering from an ablation. There is a lot of information there which will help you. It doesn’t take account of Covid because it wasn’t around then…….

I should imagine that recently having Covid will not help so possibly things will take longerto get over things like coughing and possible breathlessness. Just take things a little more easy for a little longer and listen to your body and don't over do things.

thank you!

I went from going 65mph to 5 mph. I guess I need to be more patient with myself and take time to heal.

I don't like to hear that you are having chest pain. After 3 ablations I only had brief sharp pain lasting for seconds once. A blood test should show if you have an infection. How long ago did you have Covid?

Hi there!

Thx for your reply!

I had covid mid November. Still feeling after effects. Cough is gone but feeling fatigue and spacy in my head. Got some pain meds which are helping. Don’t think it’s an infection.

Yes, it can certainly take a while to get over covid. Did you have your chest pain before you had your ablation?

I went into afib twice within 4 weeks. Was cardioverted both times. Yes, I had some pain but not as intense as this. The pain, post ablation is at about a 5. The pain meds are helping, though. I think I may need more time to heal and not push myself too hard. Especially, after covid.

I asked the same a few weeks ago. It is early days, especially if your medics say a weeks recovery (fine if you’re in your 20’s maybe) Memory issues following both cardioversions & ablations had me thinking I was going mad - just allow yourself to rest, sleep if necessary and it will come back. We try to bounce back because no one else can see what they’ve done to us inside - go with the flow but revisit the consultants if you really are worried - I went back after 3 weeks, was scanned as I’d had previous complications but he was glad I’d seen him and I just needed more RNR time. You’ll get there x

Thank you, so much! I thought I was losing my mind. Been cardio verted six times and had two ablations, in between I got covid. All this in the past year! Had two strokes, one in 2010 and the other in 2017. Fully recovered, thank God. I thought I was getting dementia because of all my brain issues. I will be patient with myself and take time to heal. Thank you, again🙏

Hopefully you’ll have a better year in 2023 ( I cost myself a fortune by ordering and sending gifts to my own house when they were meant for 250 miles away - even paid using my sons credit card 😂) Rest up you’ll do great x

my ablation left me feeling almost totally weary and foggy for almost three months, and then I picked up gradually until I was over it a year later. Your body has been through a mumber of traumas so you need to rest. If the pain doesn't ease get in touch with one of your cardio nurses for advice. Hope you feel more like yourself soon .

Chest pain should not be ignored and suggest you have someone take you to ER immediately. I've had 3 ablations and never had chest pain. The pain may have nothing to do with the ablations. You won't know until you've seen a doctor.

Thanks, for your response. I think everyone is different. Started pain meds and it has subsided. My doctor said to expect some pain.
