Looking for info on the electromagnetic fields (EMF)? Anyone have any research. I've driven a hybrid for last ten years and have A-fib. Noticed it 4 years ago. Thanks Sam

My wife corrected me 7 years ago. Time flies.

SirSam,

Try this ......... electrosensitivity.org.uk/

Prior to my AF kicking in I carried my mobile phone in my work uniform shirt pocket ..... top left hand side of chest. At the time on a lunch break I was in my car listening to the radio when a discussion cropped up on this subject. Frightened me to bits and I ceased this practice.

Some times later, a year or so maybe AF mugged me ! Draw your own conclusions. That said though I must say that my family does have a genetic predisposition to Strokes and AF from the paternal side of my family. My daughter experienced AF during her two pregnancies with my two grandaughters.

You would be amazed how much EMF we are all exposed to on a daily basis.

Some years ago a new electricity sub station was installed in the basement of my office building right under where I worked. Straight away our old style CRT computer screens started to shake and wobble making them impossisble to read. IBM used my office to trial the new LCD screens which we all now use and love.

Mindful of any health impact I called in some specialists to measure the EMF fearing it may be damaging to health. What we found was interesting. The total amount of EMF was actually quite small and the screen problem was caused not by the amount but by the chaotic nature of it. The cabling in the substation was complex and criss crossed the ceiling under the office and it was this casuing the problems The specialists took me into Southampton Row outside my office and showed me considerably more EMF just standing on the pavement thanks to all the power and phone cables etc buried thereunder.

The point is that we are all surrounded by this EMF at all times.

That said wearing a pacemaker I am not allowed to do electric welding or operate induction hobs.

I do recall a story a while back of a lady who felt that her new keyless entry car was affecting her AF and actually managed to have the manufacturer delete the facility so we are all different.

I've often wondered about the mobile phone. Likewise at work I used to keep my mobile phone in a pocket of my jacket directly over my heart, for 8-9 hours a day during work. I did this for about 6 years. Prior to this I had never heard of AF, no symptoms. Then at 48 hours of age, I had my first (known) AF episode. I've stopped keeping my phone directly over my heart, instead keeping it in my trouser pocket. Hopefully that's safe, wife and I are past the having children phase! They say you shouldn't sleep next to your mobile phone on the bedside cabinet.

Like has been pointed out, we are "swimming " in EMF.

in reply to KiwiBlake

Very similar to my experience, very similar. Re the previous post about swimming ...... of course we are .........its obvious BUT there is a big difference between swimming in household EMF and having a phone in a pocket over the heart whereby the phone electronics is only a matter of inches from the heart electronics !

In such a case the heart electronics is being assaulted, bombarded by all this invisible crap emitted by a switched on mobile phone.

Hi, I had svt and I found that when out cycling if I rode under overhead elec cables that were strung from telegraph poles (not pylons) then this triggered my svt. I could repeat it to prove this was causing it. I had to alter my cycling routes. I had an ablation so all ok now.

It sounds plausible until you look at the science when, suddenly, any influence from an EMF becomes a sheer impossibility unless it is from an ionising source such as radioactivity. I gather we are exposed to EMFs all day and every day from natural sources. I doubt sitting in a hybrid car is anything other than even safer since you are enclosed by metal.

Thanks to everyone for the information. At this point the question of EMF effect seems to be antidotal. Regarding the science, it's been my observation in life that science is ever changing . The medical field use to believe in the science of blood letting. We can be assured no negative research will be done by those who make money form the use of EMF devices. I'm going to continue researching. Seriously considering erroring on the side of caution and selling my Lexus Hybrid and buy a midsize SUV. I must admit I love my GS450h. Nothing accelerates like an electric motor.

Thanks again Sam

I see where you are coming from but the scientific method is no more than a rational way to test out a hypothesis (for example, the idea that you propose, that EMF emitted by lithium batteries might be dangerous to health).

My partner read somewhere that the EMF emissions from the batteries are strong. Sorry I can't be more specific.

read something maybe 15 years ago regarding a study into emf causing afib but never can i find the results , afib been an electrical issue , i cant see why emf and wifi wouldnt have possible effect, on my next decorating job in my house , soon i will be hard wiring my pc to at least get wifi out of the equation ,having said that my neighbours all around me are using wifi and its travelling through walls etc, doesnt give us much hope.

If there was a connection between a-fib and EMF wave, I think more people would have a-fib as microwaves give off EMF waves and everyone uses them. My EMF meter shows a big spike when it gets near mine.

I have lived in a steel framed (brick outer shell) residential tower block for many years, and the low frequency and electromagnetic radiation to which I am potentially exposed has caused me to buy a few grounding products for use within my flat in an attempt to ground my body's overheated electrical systems each day. Of course barefoot walking is a much cheaper and surer option to achieve this "grounding", but winter and city living mitigate against this natural solution.

Does it work? I don't know, but I feel at least I'm trying to combat the problem.

I found the following article about EMF and grounding very helpful ...

Good luck.

Thank you for the info. I had heard years ago about grounding the earth and being healthy. Now not the time to go outside and walk barefoot. LOL

I'll do more research with this info.

You can buy small "rubber" grounding mats, used either for your bare feet on the floor of your living room (or wherever, that's what I use), or your hands on a table as you use a computer. The mats are grounded by a cable to the earth wire in an electrical socket.

Similar for sleeping sheets, grounding at night.

Yes, plenty of info online.
