Ectopics

does anyone suffer from a line of ectopics? Not really Afib, but say 12 beats, stop. 15 beats stop. Sometimes even 2 beats stop, 2 beats. I find this really scary. Metop. Doesn't seem to be very effective, and I'm scared to take flecanaide as my HR isnt fast, perhaps around 84.

Any help, please?

H BrayGirl - everyone is known to have Ectopic premature or missed beats but most people are not aware of them. When they become very frequent eg: ventricular ectopics above 10,000/day or more than 10% of every beat you can become symptomatic and certainly I suffered a lot of ectopic symptoms after exercise in my ablation recovery period. Rest always meant they went away and eventually they became completely benign and I stopped feeling them. Ectopic beats are very common after PV ablation.

I also took them to be a good sign when I could feel them as it meant my heart was trying to go into AF but was resetting.

Dr Boon Lin is one the AA advisors and this is an article he wrote about ectopics which should reassure you, however, if you are very concerned you should see your GP as only a monitor can determine if they are atrial or ventricular ectopics - I had both for a while. Also know they are very rarely treatable and often go away with LSD - no not the drug - Long, Slow, Deep Breathing techniques. Practice the breathing often and see if that helps, it does for many people.

Hi..I have pretty much the same for the last 2 months and everyday. Previously I had 3 or 4 times of a year when they came and went but this lot seems very persistent. A 24hr monitor caught them and I was told they only make up 3 %, but as I know this time they felt different I am going down the route of self funding an investigation and lo and behold CT Angiogram has revealed 2 arteries of concern which may or may not be the reason. So next stop I believe is an angioplasty.but apart from the natural concern and worry I have no other redflag symptoms, but am making a serious effort to live and eat more sensibly. A bit of abstinence

😇. Stay calm, try the breathing techniques and walk the walk..Best wishes.

Yes, lots of them, but not so bad now I’m on flecainide. Rather than AFib, I was diagnosed with atrial tachycardia with ventricular and supraventricular ectopics. I’m on Diltiazem as I can’t tolerate beta blockers, and Flecainide, together with .Apixaban. My pulse rate is now somewhere between 50 and 55 but some days below 50. It wasn’t even very high before diagnosis. You need to talk to a doctor to put your mind at ease.

If you do not already have one it would be worth purchasing a Kardia. You could then record these events and show them to a GP or EP. It's possible they are not ectopics-although I am not, of course, qualified to make that judgement. You could also request a 72 -hour Holter test which would yield important information. In the meanwhile, avoiding stress, avoiding sugary foods and, above all, getting adequate sleep are very important.

Yes, i have runs of them in twos and threes for hours at a time, occasionally accompanied with AF. They are disconcerting and sometimes come with chest discomfort and a mildly racing heart. You have my sympathies. You’ll hear that they are benign (i.e. cause no harm) and that everyone has them. Which they do, but not like these. 😳

my sympathy if they freak you out but it’s reassuring to read your post.. feels like you’ve just accepted the new norm. Prey I can do that in time cause right now I’m terrified. I’m getting them every 3/5/10th time constantly. Had the bloods and monitoring and told its fine. Increased my bisoprolol from 2.5 to 5 daily. They gave me amitripiline to try??? Not been to chemist yet. Can’t leave the house let alone exercise! How do you do it

Mine has calmed a lot of late, thankfully. It's really an odd thing for these strange heart beats to drift in quietly, peak for a few weeks, then drift away almost unnoticed. You get far more than I ever did. I think I have grown used to them but only up to a certain level, beyond which the discomfort and anxiety creep in.

I find bisoprolol (1.25-2.5mg) mostly slows my heart but also perhaps helps to bring fewer ectopic beats. To my knowledge, in low doses, the amitriptyline you've been given is mostly used for nerve pain and sleep, I believe (in high doses its an old antidepressant, not used much as it can affect the heart). It proved a pretty useless drug for me as it makes made feel dull-headed and it did nothing for the neck pain I was given it for. My wife felt the same when she was given it for her back disk trouble.

Like MS16 (below) mine are far worse if I let myself become too hungry. For me they are the same as AF, unless the heart rate races with that, which I've only had once, thankfully. With a low-ish rate, ectopics and AF feel the same to me.

I have ectopics daily. They occur when I am hungry or after I have just eaten. When I exercise. When I go to bed or just wake up. It is my new normal. They don't bother me that much. I would rather have them than AF.

Just started with constant ectopics 3 weeks ago out of the blue. I've had ventricular ectopics for years and just ignore them;they are infrequent but what I have now are constant every 2 to5 beats and I feel awful. The ventricular ones I can feel, like a gap then a double beat; sometimes feel like I've been kicked by a horse but these are different; barely noticeable- only my BP monitor told me after U failed to notice the little symbol for 5 days. I've had 2 doctors and a nurse tell me they are atrial and two doctors say they are ventricular after 3 ECGs. I'm having a 24 hour monitor fitted on MOnday. Ventricular ectopics are very very common and usually harmless and often caused or made worse by anxiety or s tress but if these are atrial, they are totally new to me. How can 4 doctors read ECGs and have such different opinions?
