Flecanide, Bisoprolol & Rivoroxaban Morning doses

Bisoprolol & Riviroxaban I understand have to be take with food but from what I understand flecanide has to be taken 1 hour before food or on an empty stomach. How does other take their doses in the morning to make it work for them. At moment I take Bis and Riv with breakfast and then wait till 10:30-11 to take flecanide…. Would of ideally like to take all 3 at same time but not sure this is possible

Tom - flec works best on an empty stomach - very important IMO. Could you take it as soon as you wake up and wait an hour before eating ?

Thanks Paul - thanks for that. I could take it when I wake up 7am ish I was just thinking where it says 12 hours later for second tablet I’m very unlikely to have an empty stomach at 7pm! Could I leave the 2nd dose till 9pm or is 12hiur gap also important?

In an ideal world the 12 hours gap is important. I know what I did but I won't post it here.

Could you maybe eat later in the evening after your second dose or earlier in the day allowing time for your food to be digested ?

My second dose is more than twelve hours after my first one, but seems to work alright.

Thanks Suzi that’s good to know. How have you found it? Has it kept AF at bay for a long amount of time for you?

Hi TomI have a slightly different arrhythmia from AF, atrial tachycardia with ventricular and supraventricular ectopics. Very similar symptoms though and was originally diagnosed with AF. It took two or three months to settle on it but now I seem pretty stable. Low HR and low BP but at least it’s mostly steady now. All the best with yours. Just take the morning dose when you wake up. I think that’s the most important one. On the rare occasion I’ve forgotten I have noticed a difference so worth sticking to.

Hi Tom0985,I had this exact issue last year & kept forgetting the Rivaroxaban as a result - 12hour shiftwork causing vastly varied mealtimes contributed to the problems too. I had a chat with my Nurse Practitioner to explain my issues & she switched me to Apixaban which can be taken with or without food. I take all 3 meds together twice a day now & haven’t missed a med since.

Good luck & stay strong 💪

Absolutely happy with the Flecainide, thanks. I meant the Rivaroxaban was switched to Apixaban, so I now take that with Bisoprolol & Flecainide twice a day. Only the Flecainide has restrictions so the other two can be taken alongside it. It’s been working out a treat & I no longer forget any. Best of luck

Oh thanks that makes sense. So bisoprolol can be taken without food also?

As far as I’m aware, yes. It’s been given to me in hospital without food & I’ve been taking it without food for over a year now (since taking Flec) without an issue. Been taking it for nearly 3years in total without considering food - I rarely eat breakfast and took Riv in the evening with food (& Bis), so 50:50 thereabouts also without a problem. 👍

Hello mate.

I’ve never taken bisoprolol with food. Started taking it in morning but found that was better energy-wise if I took it literally right before I go to sleep 👍

Hello mate,

Intresting point as I have been struggling with a lull during the afternoon and emotions messing about with me a bit so maybe evening might help negate some of that. Always thought it was a morning tablet

No I found much better at night mate 100%. Quite a few other people on here have found the same as well. Used to sap me of all energy if I took in the morning. Theoretically first 8/9 hours while tablet is at strongest you are asleep. Works for me atleast 👍

Thanks - I’ll see how I get on with this lower dose then look to make change of neccesary

Also forgot to say when I was taking flec as pip I literally took it whenever an attack came on so chances are this would have been on empty stomach also. Can’t remember what time of day I was taking flec when I had to take daily or if on empty stomach 🤔 think my brain has blocked this time out as it was so bad for me 🤣

Good luck anyway mate 👍

Hi TomI take my flecainide as soon as I wake up in the morning. That way I know I’ve got at least an hour before food. I then take my other meds with breakfast. The evening dose of flecainide I take when I go to bed, so we’ll after my last meal of the day.

I have been on flecainide for 10 years. I have investigated the flec should be taken on an empty stomach with various pharmacists. In the early years 3 diff pharmacists (including hosp pharmacy) said it didn't matter. I take my flec at 6.30am 2 hours before breakfast and 6pm (seconds before by evening meal!)Last meds check at pharmacy I asked yet again re flec and he said " does it work?" I said yes and he said " that's fine then".

I feel the empty stomach direction may be more important if used as a pill in pocket.

Thanks Bagrat - intresting how you say 2nd one seconds before dinner. I always thought that was considered with food but I guess if it works for you then great. Hope your af is doing well with flecanide

I’ve been on flecainide for about 15 years and to be honest I’ve never worried about the state of my stomach before taking it. I’m on 200mgs a day.

As I am cynical about how effective a time release pill is over 24 hours , I take two 100 mgm, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon.

Seems to work fine for me.

I take flec as pill in the pocket as soon as afib starts which is usually about an hour after eating and it works within twenty mins
