Does anyone have problems with ankles/legs swelling and mottled looking skin/dark pigment around the ankles from taking Bisoprolol?

I get tired very easy but I am on 5mg twice per day of Bisoprolol Digoxin 250 mg at night and Entresto 24/26 twice per day which supposed to help my heart pump better I am told. My resting heart rate is between 60 and 80bpm. But does go above 100bpm if I do to much. But if I rest or lie on my bed for an hour late afternoon it calms down to around 60 Bpm but I find the tiredness side effects not easy to cope with. I also have restless legs at night which I take 300mg of Gabapentin for which works most nights 😊

Hi - there was a post from Tickerprobs about five days ago regarding this problem - lots of answers there, but no definite answers, have a read.Cassie

Thank you Cassie - Will do

I have this but mine's existed since before the advent of taking bisoprolol, Foreverwhite. So I think it's important not to absolutely assume a cause. But a change of medication might definitely be a good start. Ankle swelling can come from several heart conditions, including heart failure, as well as being a side effect of some medications.

getting rid of fluid in my lungs and around my heart seemed to help get rid of ankle and calf swelling for me.

Heck, Yes. Exactly the same problems, even on only a 2.5 mg daily dose. Problems started abruptly (at least the swelling) within 3 days of beginning bisoprolol. The colors in my ankle and top of foot look like something from a horror movie as a result. In my case, my heart's pumping efficiency is 71% (normal range is 55-70%,) so that is not the problem. The cardiologist suspects that my peripheral vasculature has an abnormally high number of receptors for bisoprolol-said receptors are found predominantly in heart vessels-and that's what causes the problem. She had me try diltiazem instead, but the swelling became worse. So it's back to bisoprolol. What to do about the problem? I bought a recliner to provide more time with my feet up, and can "multitask" there a bit by throwing balls to my dogs. About an hour of my feet "up" compensates for about 2 .5 hours of fluid accumulation with them "down" on the ground. Staying in bed for a good 8 hours a night also helps to keep them "well drained."

Wish I had a better answer, but I've been struggling with this issue for 4 years now. Somedays, my lower legs and feet look like they belong to the Michelin Man, and they make it difficult to walk and step.

Thank you so much. My doctor says I need to put my feet up more but prior to having a heart attack my legs/ankles were fine. I’m now wearing medical hosiery that I’ve bought from the internet which helps with the swelling but it’s not something I want to be doing indefinitely 😔

Since taking bisoprolol and then Cardivelol, I have swelling under both ribs which goes around the back as well. The GP says its all coming from stomach problems , I have changed my diet and have been on stomach meds for ages but it gets worse. I blame the tablets for it but can't get it sorted as he isn't happy reducing the cardivelol any more

Mine is a pre condition before taking Bisoprolol. Sure would be nice to find a resolution for the discolouration & the swelling!!!

Yes I was taking 2.5. Last week it was increased to 5mg and the situation as got worse for skin rashes but better for swelling. Had to go to AEC Wednesday and Thursday took numerous tests. The duty Consultant told me to double the dose and stop taking Candesartan. Now by blood pressure as gone up to around 175/80. My RA is so bad I’m in constant pain day and night. Now waiting for the results for Vasculitis.

They are spider veins which I have a lot of caused by my job meant I was standing still for long periods Noe especially bad round ankles & feet. I felt maybe mine got worse when I started anticoagulants

I do not have swollen ankles since coming out of hospital with a chest infection and now heart failure. But my ankles and feet are a darker colour than they used to be. Dr told me when in hospital I had lost half a stone in weight in 24hr which was fluid in my ankles and elsewhere. But my ankles and chest are ok now. Plus I have managed to get my weight down from 13.6 to 12.8 stone.
