Afib when standing up?

Hi I’m about 14 months post ablation and up until now have been free of Afib (a couple of skips now and again but nothing major).

Out of nowhere this afternoon, I’m going into Afib standing up (not a fast heart rate, but irregular beats) but as soon as I sit down it goes! Stand up, few mins later it’s back!

I can’t confirm on my Kardia as if I sit down heart is fine!

Really puzzling me, as I feel otherwise ok.

Could it just be a blip today? Could do with some words of reassurance.

Thanks

Make sure you're not doing shallow breathing just before you stand up. Take some nice deep breaths and see how you get on doing that. I think we sometimes forget to breathe deeper, especially when we move around and it's needed.

Sounds more like ectopics to me. Make sure you are well hydrated.

Thanks Bob. I managed to grab a single lead ECG from my Apple Watch 6 that reported AFib, the trace showed irregular gaps in beats but BPM was below 100.

All seems to have settled down this evening, maybe just an off day.

Anyway, hope you are keeping well.

Might be an idea to check your BP.

If you are prone to low BP you can get something called POTS - Posterial Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrone - when you change position from sitting to standing or prone to sitting your BP can’t keep up, HR increases which is a trigger to put you into AF. Hydration certainly - electrolytes help - taking in enough salt in your diet also.

Thanks, checked BP was ok.

PS - be very careful changing position - very gradual and very carefully - pumping your legs to move the blood which can pool in your legs helps, as does wearing support socks/stockings.

Yes, I got to the point where I was frightened to stand up, after the second ablation however, no. I would have a word with your Consultant, sounds like a path is still open slightly. Sorry if that is a bit non technical but, they burn a ring and if that ring has a break in it, it needs filling which is why I needed a second ablation.

Yep a possibility I’ve prepared myself for!

I experienced this many times. My guess is the nerves in your back are being affected and this affects your heart. I posted two posts on the back a couple of days ago.
