Back to swollen feet and ankles have disappeared. Even keeping them up does not help. Any suggestions please.

Calcium channel blockers like amlodopine are well known for doing that to some of us. After a week or so with me the need to wear shoes overtook my desire to take the pills. My GP switched my blood pressure tablets to something different which did not have this effect.

I had swollen ankles and feet when on Amlodipine. Now on diltiazem with no problems so far.

I think a call to the GP would be the best thing to do. I have to take a water tablet.

I was on Amlodipine 5mg and felt ok. But when it was increased to 10mg I developed the swollen ankles and feet. My GP then reduced it to 5mg plus 5mg of Ramipril. So far, so good. Worth a call to your doctor if these are side effects that concern you.

I find wearing flight socks for a couple of days to reduce the swelling helps....advised by my doctor.

I am shielding so no chance of shopping for flight socks but I am wearing light support tights... a bit hot in the warm weather. I will see if I can get flight socks on line. Thank you for your suggestion.

Flight socks are not strong enough, you need prescribed support socks. I find they work great on the swelling but of course if the problem is excess fluid they just ‘rearrange’ it which isn’t so helpful. I saw a GP about my swollen ankles and asked if I could have an emergency supply of water tablets. She was very condescending (had me marked as ‘the worried well’), told me to put my feet up and that water tabs were bad for your kidneys. The swelling kept building up so I got an appointment with a nurse who prescribed support socks and said I should have my leg circulation checked every six months - not happening now of course.....

My wife is very sensitive to taking Amlodipine . 5 mg is fine and it has to be Accord. Any other make or a higher dosage results in swollen ankles. My GP once told me that very often treating high blood pressure is best solved by a combination of two drugs together. In my case it's Amlodipine and Candesartan. Speak to your GP.
