Hi all,

Has anyone out there had long term or complete cessation of AF after ablation?

I had my third AF ablation in 2008 since when no AF BUT I also later developed atrial tachycardia for which I had an ablation in August and still in recovery period.

All treatment for AF is only ever about improving quality of life remember.

11 years AF free sounds pretty successful to me! Wishing you a speedy recovery on your recent ablation.

Have had one ablation 2 years 9 months ago with great results, it has given me my life back and am thankful for that every day.

That’s great news! Do you get ectopics? Are you still on meds?

Still on warfarin, very small dose Bisoprolol and also 5mg Ramipril. Don't notice ectopics now, did for about nine months or so after ablation though.

I had my one and only ablation in 2010. It has been very successful. I get occasional short runs of ectopics (for about an hour every few months when I'm very stressed) but that compares with AF for a day every 3 days before ablation.

That is amazing and great to hear!

3 years 1 month for me. I’ve been very lucky. No AF, no ectopics, no meds.

I’m aware it could return but I’m making the most of it for now!

I have had 2 ablations, 2010 and 2018 , both were successful in controlling my PAF. Despite complications during the last one (pericardial effusion) I have recovered really well. I have completed 100 mile bike rides this Summer and feel great. Good luck to you.

Over 4 years for me after 4 ablations. Have had a few small AF episodes and ectopic s but before I was in persistent AF for many years.

I had two ablations early 2016and late 2016. The second one lasted for two years which in my opinion was well worth it. It started going wrong by having two episodes, 5hen I got a nasty virus and woke up one day in permanent AF again, Am waiting to see my EP soon to discuss a possible third. It’s so nice to be free of the symptoms and even the symptoms I have now are less severe than they were pre ablations.

I had my ablation 5years ago no further AF but a few PVC’s. Still have a few palpitations but I can live with that. Quality of life much improved. Would certainly recommend having an ablation if offered one.

I had a cryoablation in 2008 and it changed my life, instead of episodes every 2 weeks and not being able to plan holidays etc I was able to just get on with living. I have flecainide as a pill in pocket but only take it on the odd occasion when I feel my heart is unhappy. Hope you have a good result from your treatment.

Thank you! So no more AF, no meds?

Just a few blips for a couple of months after the op whilst my heart settled down. Now I have the pill in the pocket therapy, Flecainide.

One ablation June 2016, tough dealing with initial symptoms for first six or so months but still going strong 3+ years now.

I’m coming up to 6 years.

Single ablation? Are you off all meds?

Yes single ablation. Off all meds except anticoagulant.

Whats long term? I have had an ablation on 29th Jan 2018 and have not had AF since. (I don't believe) . I have been off all drugs since May 15 2018.

Compared to the previous 30 months of PAF I think it is long term!

That’s fantastic!!

I had a cryo-ablation in Jan 2017 for PAF with episodes having become almost daily and increasing in length, some for a few hrs. I was on bisoprolol and flecainide. Post ablation I occasionally get a few ectopics/short palpitations but thankfully have had no AF episodes since and am off all medication. Ablation had such a positive impact/outcome.
