PPI medication (Protonix / Pepcid) after ablation

Is it normal to be prescribed this after ablation? I got prescribed Xarelto and PPI after my ablation.

Yes, PPI’s are prescribed to assist with irritation to the oesophagus as they put instruments down there during the procedure such as the transoesophageal echocardiogram probe and a temperature probe. It’s common to get some inflammation there after an ablation. And the Xarelto is an anticoagulant to help with clot prevention.

As Kaz has stated yes, but I would recommend short term use only . Use search box top right for more information on PPIs.

I was prescribed a PPI a week before Pulmonary Vein Ablation and to be taken for a month post ablation. I had a huge reaction. I thought I would die scratching!! Not my best experience I can tell you. Needless to say I only used one tablet out of the packet.
