What about this? If they've offered it to anyone recently it's really good new because I had a letter from the consultant who did my proceedure about 4 weeks ago or more saying that the government have withdrawn any further monies for this proceedure to take place anymore! Too good to last, eh,

The Walkman procedure? It has been over 3 months since it was discussed with me. Bummer!

Hi, it was less than that that I received the consultants letter! I think I only received one because I was in a research group for during and after the proceedure. I'd had no problems at all, so I hope it wasn't me that warranted the loss of funding! I only hope they win their fight to have some of the funding reinstated or find another less costly but equally effective proceedure, for those people who need it. Best of luck,

Sharon

What is watchmen procedure?

They put a device into the left atrial appendage area and it stops clots from forming. Left atrial appendage surgery was used for the same reason...they take it off....there are several other devices other than the watchman and less invasive surgeries involved. Meant that you didn't have to go on blood thinners anymore, a boon to those who had/have trouble taking them because of bleeding risks.

Using the devices is often called left atrial occlusion.
