Esophagus damage
Oh - I remember reading this article soon after my first ablation - I found it rather concerning - but I would say that it is now quite an old study and ablation technique & technology is now much improved. Also - in my case anyway - the damage was done by the TOE just prior to ablation - camera got stuck as oesophagus went into spasm. And it resolved without me ever taking a PPI.
I developed a sliding hernia and ulcer in my esophagus approx 3 week post ablation. Had 2 endoscopies 3 month apart to monitor it. Now ulcer has healed, but have been told I will be permanently taking ppi (omeprazole) for the rest of my life! As I'm only 50 this is slight worrying as I constantly hear you're only supposed to take them short term. I've discussed this with 2 GPs and not really got a straight answer. Tried stopping taking them for a few days, but oh boy the pain was too much to bear. So for now unless the Dr comes up with something different I will continue to take them.
