Apixaban reduces stroke risk in patients with AF undergoing cardioversion but not yet approved by FDA
Interesting, but not huge number of differences in outcome, bearing in mind less than 800 people in each group.
Also interesting to note that the study was funded by the companies who produce the NOAC's, so you would expect them to be in favour, very little money to be made from Warfarin now!
Having said all that, I take Rivaroxaban, and am reasonably content doing so.
Be careful to read it carefully, it would seem to not be approved for what they call "anti-coagulant naive" patients, in other words people who are not currently taking an anti-coagulant.
I'm fairly sure that a lot of patients have cardioversions who are already on Apixiban.
I suspect the reason by the way is that it's easier to give a "loading dose" of warfarin or heparin, than a NOAC
