Manchester Heart centre, MRI

Hi, has anyone here had a cryo ablation at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Heart Centre? I'm due to have ablation in two weeks and was wondering what there success rate may be and my EP., I believe is a Dr. Muhyaldeen. Any feedback gratefully received.

Have they not given you any patient information on the procedure and what to expect?

Dr. Muhyaldeen, performed my first ablation last year at the Manchester Cardio Centre everyone was fab.I have only ever been in the MRI for heart procedures going back to an ablation for "Wolfe Parkinson white" by Proff Garrett's team and they have always looked after me, you'll be in good hands.

With regards to "Cryo Ablation" I did ask at my initial consultation and the Doc said they will use the best method at the time. There is time to ask questions before you go in the cath lab,a fab tip from this forum is to just jot down some of your questions.Take something to read just in case you spend a little time in the day room ;-)

Cryo Ablation is a much more efficient procedure than radio frequency and has a lower risk of complications. Today I'm going for my pre-procedure appointment. I will ask if the procedure they will give me is cryo procedure, if not I'll decline and ask for a referral to the Heart Hospital in London, who I've previously contacted about having laser ablation, which I'm led to believe is the latest and has overall better % results than either of the other two procedures. I spoke to a secretary at the London Heart Hospital and she told me that cryo ablation is as efficient as laser ablation, the only difference is that with the laser, the catheter has a camera, so they get a much better view of the pulmonary vein than with the mapping technique, hence better first time success rates for a one off ablation. Thankyou for your reply and I just hope that they will perform cryo ablation when I go in two weeks time. Here's hoping, but I'll definitely know today. Also if your not aware, on the London Heart Hospital website there's a video made by Sky News in 2011 about the first laser ablation performed in the UK., by a Dr. Segal, he says that the technique is far better than the old procedures and that he hoped it would be rolled out across the UK., soon. As far as I'm aware by research I've done London is the only place that has the equipment for this procedure, so as usual, London and the rest of the UK., devide is alive and kicking.

bigE, you said that they told you they would use the best method at the time. I presume that they meant the best method for the type of ablation for the individual, ie., I'm having PVI Ablation, so as far as I know cryo, or laser, which only London have are the procedures applicable and best for PVI Ablation. Also could you tell me if there is anywhere you can lock your mobile up while your having your procedure? or any other valuables that you may want to take with you? Thanks once again for your input.
