Pradaxa has a 12 hour half life so you need to take it twice a day to be covered. At least the new guidelines are having an effect and you are now properly protected by an anticoagulant rather than an antiplatelet and that aspirin thing confined to the waste bin.

It's the normal dose. It used to be 250mg x 1 a day but that proved to be too much and from what I read, may have been the cause of a lot of the bad press regarding bleeds so it was reduced to 150 mg x 2 day. Dabigatran does have a short half life, about 12 hours so it is important to follow the instruction leaflet and stay at 12 hourly times to take it for maximum effectiveness. I take mine at 9a.m. and 9 p.m.

I have been on it for 8 months now and everything is good. Just remember to take with plenty of water and I found it better to take after food as it did give me heartburn when I took it just before bed and without food. Once I had sussed that, everything has been very easy.

Hi Pridewood I have been on the same dosage as you for ten months with no problems. I don`t know what`s available in the UK, but in my country it is only available in 75mg and 150mg. The important thing to remember as Bob mentioned is try not to miss a dosage as you will be unprotected for the next 12 hours. If you should forget at pill time take it right away and if it is close to the next pill time wait till then to take it and you will be back on schedule again.
