There is a full explanation on a fact sheet on the main AFA website which you can down load. I would make my own comments as follows.

People think it is an instant fix,. It isn't!

It may take several goes to sort you out.

Recovery time is under rated. Take plenty of time and go slowly.

It takes at least three months for the scar tissue which blocks the rogue impulses to form so do be patient.

There is a 50% chance of return of AF within five years post successful ablation. I am 5 1/2 years and still AF free but it took three ablations to get here.

Hope that helps but do look at the fact sheets

In addition to our expert input mentioned above, I just had my first ablation three days ago after long AF suffering including two cardiversions put me in the position of looking for permanent solution since even medication didn't work for me

Actually I was two scared from the procedure itself , but honestly it was a lot easier than what I thought but each case is different

I was on paroxysmal atrial flutter and my EP doctor said it was so easy case

The procedure took around Three hours and I was awake talking with the doctor watching the screens

It was not painful but little discomfort where they gave me something in the vain to make me more relaxed

I was discharged from hospital next day with a week sick leave from work

Currently I'm having palpitation from time to time which considered as expected during recovery and under control

My experience ends here where I'm resting to recover completely which is still within a month as informed by my doctor

Kind regards

I was diagnosed in 1992 with 9 Cardio Versions I have had 3 ablations all have been different. First was the 4 pulmonary the Second was the main chamber the Third was a look see to assess Pace Dependent decision. I was long term AF before hospital Diagnosed me and started treatments (Another story)

I was told after Ablation not to lift anything above 2kg for the first week and do not drive.

Be Well
