clarification on EBRT protocol

I come back again on organ damage control during RT

My RO says they have top equipment..IMRT IGRT upto date...

It would be interesting to be aware of small details to limit damage...

---knowledge of type of equipment

----external markers or implanted ones

---having bladder full

--- state of rectum...well flushed or leave as it is

----what diet during RT with

least gas producing one

----should one avoid

I'm into fourth week of IMRT with an implanted fiduciary from prior HDR-Brachy. You want that because it results in a more precise IMRT radiation field. The routine for IMRT is everyday about 2 hours before appt to start hydrating, and be as full as you can be without discomfort when you get zapped. It takes me about 1 1/2 quarts of fluids to get a full bladder. Try to regulate your BM's so you take one in the morning before treatment. I do this by eating some beans or soft food right after my afternoon treatment to keep things loose for the next morning. Diet: don't take C or E supplements as antioxidants may protect the cancer from radiation, but do eat a well balanced diet. I read the flavones in soy and green tea may sensitize the cancer to radiation, so I alternate days taking those. I have SpaceOar, and recommend it. I saw an MRI image of it after it was placed during the HDR, and it is really amazing how well it separates the rectum.
