Sometimes we want to ignore specific people. Sometimes we read everything so we don't miss-out. Do you want an "ignore" or "mute" button?

Thanks for the vote. I sometimes find vital information in the comments from posts that are of marginal interest. So no need for an Ignore option.
You already have a means to "follow" certain people, so why not have a button that allows you to "ignore" someone. However, one should also be able to easily reverse a decision to "ignore" someone. Thanks.

Good afternoon, thanks for asking but I don’t think we need to have option to ignore or mute. We can pass by things we don’t want to read. In my case, that’s usually not much.

But, my point is that if I "muted" you in particular, you would not have been able to reply to me, and/or nobody would have been able to see that you responded, which I respect you for having done. My apologies again! I will be careful where I hit "reply".
You aren't the first person on here to "reply" to the wrong person. Even though I said that a cancel button would be okay with me, I don't ever expect to do it to any one, even if I don't like what I am reading. Peace
making this very political by canceling each other. Open is the only way. Just look at our nations media. Show us the tapes. We can choose.

What does the ignore button do? Once pressed, does that mean i will not receive any more posts from that person? If it only ignores that particular post, what's the difference between an ignore button and just deleting it before reading it? The button is superfluous.

You answered your question. An ignore button tells our server not to show you posts and replies from a specific user until you toggle ignore, much like you would follow or unfollow a specific community. We would not be creating a button that would be superfluous.
Please do it.
There are members here who never contribute to any meaningful discussions regarding proven treatments, never help anyone, only post useless garbage and fringe research, promote only non-treatments and don't even bother putting anything in their Bio . I would love to just ignore these people and never see another one of their posts again. I can't believe I'd be missing anything. I've got a list already made.

Not everyone is as technological savvy as you. Members might press the button in error and not realize what the consequences of that action. They could miss valuable, even critical information from future posts.
I guess most people on here aren't hounded by the half dozen trolls that hound me. I don't understand why members are voting against civility. Maybe the "no" voters can explain their rationale.

That's how "block" works on all social media. You can choose to block anyone by pressing a "block" button, and you can choose to unblock them by hitting an " "unblock" button that shows up when that member posts anything. It works that way now in private mail. It would just extend that to public posts.
So, say you blocked MemberX. You would not see Member X's posts, but you would still see a message that says "You are not seeing Member X's posts because you have chosen to block Member X Do you wish to unblock?"
This forum is not "social media", it's a life line for people with a devastating disease. We share experiences and information.

Trolls don't like to ignored. They like to be fed.
Anyone who doesn't like an ignore button can just ignore it. How about that!
Those of us who want it, should have it.
People on the forum who are just here to push "alternatives", unproven and potentially dangerous treatments like Ivermectin, apricot pits and ozone up your ass don't like someone being able to ignore them which they deserve.
I've got to believe that not all the people who are voting no are trolls. I'd like to believe they misunderstand - maybe?

I wouldn’t mind a compartmentalized forum where I don’t have to see posts from people who only post/discuss alternative medicine options.
The beauty of the ignore OPTION is you don’t have to use it. You can just choose to not click it. The forum would stay the same as always for you…
It’s a good way to keep trolls who don’t have cancer and just here to stir the pot from jamming up your inbox as well.
I'd guess that most or all of alternatives crowd doesn't want an ignore button. It's like asking telemarketers to vote whether to give you an ignore button on your telephone. There are people I don't want in my compartment.
I don't see any legitimate reason for people to not want OTHERS to have the ability to ignore people. There's only one reason why they would be against it, they don't want it used on them.
Really tired of people using the site like facebook to share what they are doing on vacation and what they are eating. Not why I read posts.
Great idea. Information overload is a big enough problem. "consider the source" is one of the best pieces of advice I ever got from one of my old bosses, and not everyone has time to weed through posts to find the gems. It would make the site more useful.

Great idea if they are ignored often enough and by enough people they may learn that their input into the forum is not wanted.

Thank you for the offer. There is such a thing as scrolling. I'm not against it for those who feel need. The rest of us can simply ignore the choice.
It appears that a number of members fail to successfully navigate through posts that they deem undesirable. However failure to navigate through posts is not the problem. A negative perception of failure is the problem.
My wife voted to ignore me............(actually she voted retroactively at our wedding).

I've read several posts in this thread and it's obvious that some don't understand the ignore function in a forum. If it existed in this forum and any or all of you find my posts of little or no value, you simply ignore me and my comments will no longer show in the thread. You can still see the thread with everyone else's response. How are people not getting this? I was actually surprised to find there was none here. Isn't the ignore button a basic social media platform function?
was surprised at result but on the other hand makes sense as gives us the ability to read and decide on value

I voted "no," but after reading other peoples' replies I feel that the question as posed might be a little ambiguous. In voting "no" I was indicating that I personally do not feel like I need a "mute" button, but I am not actually against there being one for other people to use. If the question had read "Are you against the installation of a mute button?", I would also have answered "no." Maybe the answer options could have been "Don't install", "Please install", and "Neutral" or "Don't care." Just a thought. 🦊
How about another button to turn the ignore button on or off (or make it visible or invisible), and set the other button to hide the ignore button, but with an explanation that clicking it will give the user the ability to select people they'd like to ignore.

I think I am able to stay positive if I don't read the suffering of others in the same boat as me.
I would like to be able to ignore the trolls that pop here up on the forum.
One of the things I see frequesntly here on this forum is a brand new member, no posts, no bio will throw out something controversial to get a fight started. This has happened repeatedly here.
Another is brand new member, no posts, no bio makes outrageous claims designed to provoke a response. They may or may not contribute to the fight that follows. We all have to be on the lookout for this and not respond whether we get an ignore button or not. As they say" Don't feed the trolls"
How about a Radiation Button to zap the trolls!

All of these diet and supplements posts to me are really off-topic and have nothing to do with prosate cancer. If that's your interest, go for it but I'm only interested in proven treatments or clinical trials for promising treatments.
I am in favor of a reply button. For those that say no, simply don't use it.
There is in a way an ignore button already. There are certain posters I know I want to read as well as those that I don't. I would love to have that process automated so I can choose ahead of time.
I assume the button would apply to individual posters so that it would ignore response posts to original posts as well. Though I can ignore an original post, when reading a post I am interested it would save time not having replies from posters that I would ignore. In some posts the replies provide a lot of information. That is where I think it would be most helpful.
Having an ignore button does not infringe on anyone else. If someone finds it helpful, that is their choice. If a poster does not, then they are not required to use it.
I can't believe the 'yes' votes are so few. I didn't realise there were so many members that I would want to block.
Allowing a block button would not affect any member who has voted 'no'. They could just not use it. Not allowing a block button does affect all those who voted 'yes'! So I do not see any way forward except to allow a block button as, not to, is being one-sided and biased in favour of the 'no' voters.
The survey is confusing. First choice implies the administration would control the ignore button ("without your help"). In fact, it is the readers who would control their ignore button and administration would not be involved.
Daryl: Thanks for your work on this excellent forum. If, based on your poll, 21% of respondents want to be able to not see posts from an individual, why not allow them to make that choice. It would in no way affect the majority who aren't bothered by certain poster's comments and want to see everything, but it would make the site a lot more pleasant for those who would like to have that feature.
