I am in my 50's and the acne started again 15 years ago. They told me it would only last a couple of years... I think they got that wrong! I was very lucky in that I never had it in my teens/early 20's, but I am paying for it now. I have had it since I was 37 and it is not going away with any treatment unless I stay on the long term antibiotics, but of course they come with so many other problems.

Good luck to you all out there with this horrible "in your face" problem...

I am convinced my acne which started when I was in my early 20s was caused by gluten intolerance or celiac disease. This seemed to cause what my body considered poisons in my bloodstream and I was forever coming out with acne type lesions. Doctors only ever treated me for acne, using different creams antibiotics, but never were able to halt it. Once I gave up gluten and at the time milk and milk products, at the age of 60ish the "acne" stopped. Due to the long term damage to my gut I now also have to inject vitamin B12 every four days. Everything seems so much better than it ever was in the past forty years now. If people and doctors would just understand that acne has a cause and the cause needs to be found and addressed rather than treat the symptoms. I hope this helps.
