Advice Please
I am currently attending a First Aid at Work Course. If I am called to a patient who is choking then I should do everything in my power to clear the obstruction, even if I injure the patient (EG break a rib). If I have a patient with an asthma attach who does not have their blue inhaler with them and

Feeling better already
I saw my GP yesterday and she changed my preventer from pulmicort to symbicort. I've only had a couple of doses but the addition of formoterol really seems to be doing the trick. Last night I had the best night's sleep I've had in ages and I'm feeling great. My peak flows are back up to my 610L/min pb

There's no background music or fruit machine going. Just us. Last few weeks, DH and I have taken week about re designated driver. Last night

what a horrible, horrible day i've had. I took a pretty bad asthma attack at work this morning, i always like to inform someone if its bad as i worry about falling unconscious and not getting found - i fear the worst! So i managed to tannoy one of the duty managers who was in a meeting but said he'd

Asthma at University
I'm currently very angry with my university and unsure what to do. I'd appreciate any advice or experiences others are able to share. Before Christmas I had a severe attack at uni. I posted here about the poor first-aid treatment I received where I was left for 30 minutes and told all attacks got

First-Aiders
I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of training first-aiders had in asthma? It's a while since I did first-aid training and I don't remember being told much about asthma. Whilst I had a very good experience with the ambulance / hospital this week, I had a terrible experience with the university's

Discrimination - volunteering with a caring organisation???
I think I know now what it is like to be discriminated, job wise, against with my asthma! I have over the last 8-9 years done Radio Communications for St John Ambulance, voluntarily on large duties such as V pop concerts and Airshows etc. I have had a few problems with my asthma during some of these

The Middle of Nowhere
A strange question, but I think there are some people who live in quite remote areas here who may be able to help or others may have similar experiences. I live in central London 5 minutes walk from a major teaching hospital. I know what to do if I need help, where to go or when to call an ambulance

Royal Parks Half Marathon- in memory of Becks (WARNING - contains sensitive material)
Hi there, I'm new to this site as I do not suffer from asthma but it has affected my life. I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 12th Oct in memory of my best friend & my rock who sadly passed away from an asthma attack in 2006. She was aged just 26, always the life & soul of the party

Anyone else get really cold legs and feet (especially in the night)? Plus, do any of you get woken up with pins and needles in your hands?
I take warfarin, thyroxine and sotalol.

APS with Flu Vaccination
My doc suggested that it would be wise to get the annual seasonal flu jab as so many cold/flu medicines interact so much with Warfarin that it's better to be protected from flu as much as possible in the first place. Have any of you had the seasonal flu jab whilst on Warfarin and has it caused any

Can I take St. John's Wort whilst taking MTX?
I have been disgnosed with depression but do not wish to take anti-depressents. Is it ok to take St. John's wort or will it interact with MTX?

Home Delivery Service
Does anyone have their meds delivered? I ended up having my MTX delivered by the HomeService, organised by my consultant, as my GP wouldn't prescribe the injections, even though the tablets made me sick. Got a call from them to say Meds would be delivered to me at work. I expected the 8 wks worth

Natural Anti-depressants
Anyone have positive experience of taking natural anti-depressants.. Changed my thyroid meds a few times this year and became mildly depressed. Tried St Johns Wort with some result, gone on to Prozac for a few weeks which has stopped it, but have side affects. Love to hear of a natural product that works

Selenium
I h ave read on this site that selenium is recommended to help the conversion of T4 into T3 My doctor prescribed one 100mcg tablet per day I know that high levels of selenium are toxic. I'm therefore afraid to take the prescribed dosage on a regular basis lest it might accumulate in the body and cause

Raynaud's Awareness
This week I had to take part in a 3 day first aid course for work, and during the course we discussed the effects of heat and cold, so I thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to bring up Raynaud's, no one in the group had heard of it, (no surprise there) but whilst explaining it, the group

I have just got all my medical records since I was born - very freaky! I have gone through and pulled out all my test results and put when my medications where changed and wondered if anyone would have a look at them for me. They are: TSH (0.25-5) FT4 (9-23) FT3 (3.5-6.5) 19/09/2008
