Hemosiderin staining?

Hi,

Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve woken up today with rust like staining, mainly on my left hand with a little on my right. No logical cause from anything I’ve touched.

Googling seems to suggest it is hemosiderin staining, though they are mainly US sites. This could make sense as I still get quite bad claudication in my arms.

I’m not particularly concerned but does anyone else have this and has it been linked to your vasculitis?

Thanks!

Have you been handling vegetables or weeding the garden? It could just be vegetable staining?

Hiya - no almost definitely not connected to anything like that. Whilst I do both, I’ve not handled anything different from normal, or eaten anything new or taken any new meds. It also does not wash off at all.

It was not there when I went to bed last night but was there this morning. It also does look identical to pictures that other people have uploaded on line - distinctly rust like.

It was just an initial thought before thinking about medical reasons.

I have SLE / DLE /APS . Skin marks like you describe have been happening to me for 30 years , mainly on back of hands and back , eventually fade but sometimes come back ; I just accept it as part of the condition and if it was going to kill me , I reckon it would have done it by now.

I have rust-like hemosiderin staining on the back of one hand, caused by decades of using potent steroid cream to keep eczema at bay. Eventually, this thinned the skin to the point where the slightest knock would produce blood-red patches from leaky capillaries. Every time the 'bruise' healed, it left behind a trace of iron, and this built up into permanent pigmentation. I think the back of the hands are more susceptible because they are also prone to long-term UV damage from the sun, which breaks down the collagen and elastin in the skin:
