I was inspired watching the London Marathon on TV today and felt compelled to enter Race for Life again this year. I did it last year and it was great fun. It's 5k, which can be walked or run and is a fantastic race for all us C25kers to be involved in. It is really well organised and attracts thousands of runners.
It turns out that this year my local one (Tunbridge Wells) is happening on my birthday so I am going to ask my relatives to sponsor me as my birthday gift
It may not be the London Marathon but it's our way of being part of the running community and raising money for Cancer Research at the same time.
They happen all around the country, so look up your nearest one and join me by signing up!
Just to add as well what a good thing Race for Life is! I ran the Herne Bay one last year and really looking forward to the next one...lots of support, a rousing warm up with thousands of others and lots of support all round. Brilliant stuff. we could all list where we are running and give a virtual cheer for each other!
Entered for the Bristol Race for Life 7th July with my daugher. We both did it last year and it was deciding to enter the race which started my C25K journey.
I'm doing the Warwick one on 30th June. I've done the Stratford one (walking) twice, so it'll be interesting to see how different it is. Last time it was pretty hot, and someone collapsed on the course just in front of me, about 20m from the finish line! Not that I want to put anyone off - just make sure if it's hot that you don't overdo it!
I'm doing the Southend one in three weeks *gulp* I ow the distance really shouldn't be a problem for me by now, but I've not been doing too well recently so am just hoping that adrenaline gets me through it on the day...
I'm doing the Heaton Park (Manchester) one with my daughters. I did it with the eldest 2 years ago and ended up walking/running round while she hared off into the distance, I'm going to give her a run for her money this year!
I'm likely to do the Oxford one. There is usually a team from the office that does it each year and I've avoided it before now. The one time I did do it (in Leicester) I walked the whole thing! It won't be like that this year
it's a great event as it's so friendly and you get people of all abilities there.
