Behind the knee pain

Week 4 and I have behind the knee pain and I can’t even walk far without having to go back home.

Is it caused by my gait, stretching incorrectly or my heel spur? Heel spur used to hurt but not anymore but has it just moved up my leg?

Strengthening and stretching after every run, as linked to in the guide to the plan will make a huge difference.

The primary cause is the impact of running, so follow the advice in the guide on minimising impact.

I had a similar knee problem on and off throughout most of the programme. If particularly sore, I increased rest days between runs.

I wear a support now on my troublesome knee when out running and have found it really helpful:

boots.com/neo-g-open-knee-s...

I always do the NHS post run stretches too:

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h...

The problem has eased. I’d say it was worse W1-7. You have to rest if it’s too sore for even walking. I took about 12-14 weeks to complete the programme because of this issue.

Good luck.

Yes, I have rested it and it’s a bit better, but to keep it well long term the knee support seems a good idea. I have been doing the after C25K stretches diligently... I wonder if I stretched too enthusiastically?

I imagine you could possibly pull a muscle, rather than stretch it.
