Morning,I’ve just completed week 3 and today tried to jog slowly using smaller steps following watching the kid slowly video,my breathing was better and I was definitely slower but my calves were really painful,do you think this is just coincidence or has anyone else experienced it and found a way around it?

First off, we'll done you.Head across to the S and F forum..lots of super link to exercise for those calf muscles.

Ease back and run more slowly, but don't try to change the way you run..taking shorter steps may be why your calves are aching ...

Is it possible that before, when your stride was longer, you landed more on the back of your foot? Small steps automatically make you land more towards the front of your foot, and that in turn is far more demanding for your calves. (But better for your joints, especially knees!)Like others said, stretch and strength exercises are important; make sure that your calf muscles are well warmed up beforehand (loose and limber) and take your time stretching afterwards. Good luck!

Thanks so much that’s really helpful and a good point,I’ll make sure I persevere with the smaller steps as i am having trouble with one knee but really concentrate on my warm and stretches for my calves.
