Can someone give me some advice.
I got on this forum because of my niece. She is the one that has the kidneys failing. She is in the hospital and just started dialysis. The dialysis is not cleaning her blood. They want to do a blood transfusion. The question is will this change the results of a kidney transplant, will the new kidney

Drop in haemoglobin
I had a phone call from my Gp today to say my anaemia has deteriorated. My usual level is 106 and it’s dropped to 94 for no apparent reason. I have stage 4 kidney failure, no dialysis yet and Vasculitis. I take iron tablets and Aranesp injections to increase my Hb levels. I’m waiting for Addenbrookes

Been given one for birthday. Is it safe to use as I have AF, a pacemaker for heart block, several leaky valves and mild heart failure? Loth to bother GP if anyone else can advise.

Confused
My blood test in December 17 showed gfr 65 and creatinine 83. In Jan 18 gfr 62 and creatinine 87. I paid privately for a kidney scan and the doctor said both my kidneys are a good size and look healthy. My bp us low to normal and I'm not diabetic. My gp says there is absolutely nothing to worry about

Kidney diet
Hello, this is my first post on this site. I lived with a cadaver kidney transplant for almost 30 years. I am now on hemodialysis. Does anyone know how much potassium and phosorus is recommended per day? Thank you,

My heart of my anxiety.
After my yearly ECG in the surgery I was told I had AT and put on Warfarin last summer. I was already on Bisoprolol having been told I had developed heart failure 5yrs ago. I read about AF episodes, what exactly do they feel like??. I frequently feel a laboured rusty purring in my chest, does anyone

T3 and heart rate
Hi all I’ve been having problems with a really low heart rate. It did improve when I first went on T4 but only briefly. I have read online that T3 is needed by the heart and bradycardia is common in hypothyroidism if T3 is not converting. Does anyone else have a similar problem that was helped by T3

A boost for all you young AFers
I will be 84 years next Thursday and two years ago spent my 82nd birthday in Harefield having an ablation. I hope two years is long enough to tempt fate and say I feel cured. Yes I am breathless but that is probably my asthma or my aorta dissection plus a little heart failure contributing to the breathlessness

Adult HSP iga nephropathy
Hello So i have been given a diagnosis of adult HSP vasculitis with associated kidney damage. Current treatment is to protect the kidneys from further damage and im already hopefully modifying my diet as recommended. Ie removing salt. As this seems to be a childhood diese and short lived i wondered

Can we develop a useful formula for calculating what is an acceptable heart rate for an individual in AF? (when to seek medical attention)?
Hello, As we have so much experience and knowledge on this site as patients and as medical professionals, I wonder if putting our heads together on this could be productive for doctors and patients. Given that once in AF a high heart rate may persist for many hours, even days, it would be useful to

ABG (Blood gas test) yesterday.
Hi all. Following a CT Scan on lungs and heart, my doctor informed me that it showed that I have the usual COPD scarring on my lower lungs plus the onset of heart failure, this despite two blood tests for heart showing clear. This didn't really surprise me due to the recently acquired painful swelling

Gp says TPO antibodies can never go down!
Hi I’ve been on here since September, hope you can track me down. Just seen my GP and asked for TPOab test with TFT’s (lab will only do TSH) as stupid endo wouldn’t do them. She told me that only need one test as they will never come down! I’m sure that’s not true, and I told her so, but she repeated

CRT-D Pacemaker Implantation Part 4
I’m writing this blog to help those who, like me, struggled with the whole concept of Pacemakers, CRT Pacemakers and ICD’s. My understanding of the role of the various pieces of kit are :- * A Pacemaker is used to help people with heart failure. It gives the heart a little help should it try to slope
