anyone ever had gastritis not caused by h pylori? Mine seems to be lingering and it’s getting me down. I have been switched from Omeprazole to lansprazole and have been told I must be patient as I think my health anxiety is kicking in and I’m annoying the doctors lol

I've had problems caused by acid reflux for many years. I've got gastritis again, and although PPIs have never worked for me (or H2 Inhibitors) the Consultant put me back on Lansoprazole a month ago. No improvement of course, and my next appointment is March 2025. My GP's Pharmacist said he'll review it in another month's time, and I think that's normal advice. It doesn't help though when your symptoms don't improve, or get worse because the meds aren't right for you!

In answer to your other post, I have permanent nausea and I haven't noticed any change to that with Lansoprazole.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this.

0h I’m sorry! This is so rubbish. I’m away at the moment and just want to eat like a normal human but I’m scared. I was on Omeprazole and while I still felt some symptoms the burping and fullness in top of stomach I didn’t feel sick. 3 days on lansoprazole and the nausea is horrible :(

Yes. I was suffering with stomach pains for over a month when I decided to see GP. I had lost quite a bit of weight because I'd lost my appetite. So GP put me on a two week cancer referral. Sent for Scan & camera test and was diagnosed with Gastritis and hernia. Prescribed 2 x 15mg Lansoprazole a day and told to take Gaviscon when needed. Eat smaller meals. Try not to eat anything acidic, avoid alcohol, avoid caffeine. Mine lasted about 3 months.

It can take a good few weeks to settle down.

Yes, I was diagnosed with regular gastritis 6 years ago, with stomach pain and heartburn. Put on PPIs. I was H-Pylori negative. Had off and on heartburn for years after, always treated with PPI's which seemed to work temporarily for a while, then not at all. Then 6 months ago more tests concluded I have autoimmune atrophic gastritis, still negative for H-Pylori. I'm on weekly B12 shots for life. I also now have an iron deficiency, being treated with iron tablets.

I’m sorry it’s been such a struggle. Are you able to sometimes enjoy a night out? Nice food? Atm the mo I’m eating very little and what I am eating is bland and boring. I feel I’ll never be able to eat normally again at the mo!

Actually I feel just fine. I was on the gerd diet for a year before being diagnosed, to no avail. But since I was diagnosed, I come to find out I have low acid, so it's fine for me to eat whatever I want. I rarely get heartburn anymore, but when I do I take Heartburn Tx and it works every time. I never have stomach pain anymore either. I go out regularly and enjoy it!

Yes I'm H Pylori negative...switched from Omneprazole to Lanzaprozale but it took 4 weeks to be effective. I stopped taking it and symptoms came back so back on Lansoprazole and again took 4 weeks to be effective. Now eat fairly normal healthy diet with plenty of treats and alcohol if I want.

That’s good to know. It’s upsetting not been able to eat properly. Can I ask what you symptoms were? I also have health anxiety so my minds everywhere x

Yes, there are two types of gastritis 1) environmental Atrophic Gastritis, this is primarily caused by H-Pylori infection, usually restricted to the Antrum (the lower part of the stomach), and is the predominant form of gastritis or about 98.5 to 99% of gastritis cases. Once H-Pylori is eradicated through antibiotics this form is known to heal somewhat over time. Most doctors/GPs only ever see this type so they automatically will prescribe a PPI.

2) the second type is Autoimmune Atrophic Gastritis (AAG or just AIG). This is a much rarer form of gastritis, resulting in about 1 to 1.5 % of gastritis cases. This form starts in the Fundus and upper gastric body, the very top of the stomach and spares the Antrum. This type of gastritis has no cure and is a progressive disease and over time the Parietal Cells in the oxyntic mucosa will be destroyed by your immune system. It's important know which type you have as the treatments are different. In AIG the Parietal Cells produced both Gastric Hydrochloric Acid and Intrinsic Factor. PPIs should not be prescribed with this condition as you most likely will have Hypochlorhydria or Achlorhydria, low and no stomach acid respectively. Leading ultimately to a whole host of digestive issues, Pernicious Anemia, B12 and iron deficiency. Tests to confirm AIG:

Parietal Cell Antibody, serum

Intrinsic Factor Antibody, serum

Gastrin, serum

Gold standard, endoscopy/gastroscopy with biopsies showing gastritis and damage to oxyntic mucosa but sparing the antrum.

I'm not a doctor just an ol' Joe who's been through the mill on this. 😊

Hope this helps some, Rexz

I have gastritis and not h. pylori. i also have had erosive esophagitis grade II. Latest endoscopy shows inactive gastritis which supposedly means it's there but not actively damaging tissue. Esophagitis no longer present, prob due to my very low acid diet. I have acid reflux but can't take PPIs. I can only handle one pepcid, but one really isn't enough.

Since having Covid 2 and half years ago have had acid/gastritis. Have had a low acid diet but can now eat more and more. I can't take PPIs but took slippery elm for a few months and again when it returned. I found this calmed it all down...Worth a try so you don't keep taking PPIs.

I have gastritis, a hernia and a bad gallbladder. Triple whammy. I couldn’t tolerate the ppi’s so I use Pepcid and Gaviscon. This latest flare-up has been going on for 6 weeks and I’m down to eating oatmeal, gluten free toast, white fish and sweet potatoes. I hope this will be enough to get me through until it heals up. I’m trying to wean off the Pepcid but the rebound is truly brutal. I have to persevere though as I know it’s too little acid and that taking Pepcid makes it worse in the long run. I use slippery elm, zinc and charcoal along side of Gaviscon. If I can just tough it out over the next few weeks, I;m praying that between the bland diet and the other stuff I will get off of it. I wish us all remission of all pain.
