Too old for HRT?

Hi everyone, I’m 66 and just started HRT. I’m on Lenzetto spray and Utrogestan. I keep worrying that I’m too old to be on HRT. Are there any other ladies out there who have just started at my age and if so, has it helped?

Hi I was on HRT for 22 years after a hysterectomy- I stopped at 62 which was fine for 5 years (I had had implants) However I started to get hot flushes night sweats tiredness etc etc - I went to doctors after suffering for 2 years as it was getting worse - I’m now on patches (since age 70) and everything under control - I don’t think I could think about stopping again.

I had hysterectomy when I was 36 I have tried to come off Hrt several times but my symptoms come back. I am also 70 and use the patches they do help but I have other illnesses I suffer with. Fibromyalgia, Underactive Thyroid, Spondylosis and IBS, Anxiety and Depression. It can be very confusing what causes what as the symptoms are very similar. X

I also have an underactve thyroid and also not sure if it's menopause or my thyroid causing the symptoms. I thought I would trial HRT and if it works, I would then know that it's menopause that is still casuing the symptoms.

I too have under active thyroid and due to IBS anxiety for which I take tablets otherwise I would be confined to home. I have had CBT -and now manage to get to gym and days out with the assistance of immodium. I’m determined not to let hormones and IBS rule my life

I'm the same I take Imodium and other medication to be able to go out. I have fecal accidents at times so I do stay home when this happens and wait for the flare to subside.

I think it matters more how long ago you stopped having periods more than how old you are. I'm 62 menopause at 58. I did try HRT at about 60 but l think it clashed with my levothyroxsine tablets for underactive thyroid so l stopped it. I felt too many hormones. It's perfectly safe if you have had a hysterectomy to carry on l believe now. It's all a choice thing now. I do take Vagifem tablets up there twice weekly.

Hi

I am 64 and not long started HRT after several health problems appeared after having total hysterectomy. I was late to menopause at 56/57. HRT can be taken for life as you are hormone deficient for life and post menopausal for life. NICE states this and quashes the fact that menopause is over at a certain time and that you have to put up with a diminished quality of life. I have found a difference taking lenzetto in feeling more supple and experiencing less intensive joint pain. Time will tell if I gain more benefits but I’m happy with those changes. I do get less angry at things and am a bit calmer as menopausal rage is a real symptom and I did experience this. Hope this helps. I intend to stay on hrt for life.
