Yes, it’s that time of the week already and we have lots of people to cheer on to success this weekend. We have nine runners in the field, spread over five events. All events take place on Sunday 5 May and we wish them all some early spring sunshine and light balmy breezes to lift the spirits. The weather forecast mentions the possibility of some rain in the afternoon, but hopefully our athletes will be inside, feeding their faces and rehydrating before any of that shows up!
Let me introduce our intrepid runners:
🌟 We have Freecloud running the Great Limerick Run, along (maybe beside would better!) the mighty River Shannon. This is his fourth organised marathon, following up on his success in the Belfast Marathon a year ago. Last we heard, he was experimenting with 6mins/k as a pace, but planning to run a little slower than that. Super speedy!!
🌟 Next we move from Western Ireland to the banks of the Great Ouse in Kings Lynn. We have 00marks , Purplecat68 Curlygurly2 and Madge50 set to take on the Run For All 10k through the streets of this famous Norfolk ancient port and market town.
🌟 Moving seamlessly on to the Midlands, we have Time_Lord running the Great Birmingham 10k through the heart of the city. Plenty of apres run going on there; should be a wonderful experience. Don’t dawdle in the jewellery quarter!
🌟 Still Middle England(ish), we have our atomic powered couple, Katnap and TailChaser returning to Ilmington for another tussle with those lovely hills and country lanes. No sign that there are sausages on the menu, but I am sure that they will have researched the food scene carefully!!
🌟 Our grand finale is provided by Runnin-g taking on the Runaway 8.5 Trail run in Shepton Mallet. This looks like a real challenge with a climb from the start to halfway, followed by a speedy descent down to the market place where Boxty ( an Irish grated potato cake, dished up with spicy tomato sauce, grated cheese and topped off with a poached egg!) is available. Now that is worth running for!!😋
Yes I prepare it the night before race days. I just use normal natural yoghurt though. I add a bit of honey for sweetness and chopped nuts for texture in the morning befor demolishing. 😋
Thank you Beachcomber, I am so looking forward to i!
I don't know if we can get a HU photo, I know Madge50 already, but 00marks and Purplecat68 maybe you can find me by my very long, curly white hair, people say it unmissable!! I will probably be hanging around at the fringes, not really a crowd sort of person. I hope we can meet up, best of luck to all of you xx
Hey guys, 👋, thank you for the mention. I see 00marks and Purplecat68 are pretty nifty, me on the other hand won’t be….😂…..I’ve been battling a heavy cold all week, and it’s still reluctant to shift……🤬……so you might not want to get too close anyway…
I will be there, not done this one before so not 100% sure of landmarks etc., however , I am fundraising for Anthony Nolan, (stem cell donor charity) so you should be able to spot me in my lovely bright green vest….☺️
What a wonderful bunch of HU runners running this weekend! 😀 Good luck everyone - hoping the weather is kind and the bling is sparkly…(or woody and environmentally friendly!😁) Have fun!👍🏃♀️🏃🏽🏃♀️🏃🏽🙂
A veritable smorgasbord of heroic HU bling seekers this weekend! Damp but enthusiastic West Country pom poms have started flapping, getting ever flappier as Sunday approaches! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Run, you amazing folk! Show us how it’s done and don’t hold back on your race reports. ❤️
A great line up this week BC, looks like we’re well into the spring race season now 👍 We will do our best to wave Pom poms for everyone as we make our way up and down that hill again (there will be woods and bluebells as well this time, and we’ve been promised mud, lots of mud. Trail shoes essential). No sausages 😭 I’m feeling a bit short changed as they did pies at their mid week race, perhaps there’ll be some left 😋
Teesside pom poms and double woohooooooooos coming your way everyone!! Wishing you all the very best. To be on the start line deserves so much credit ⭐👏⭐👏⭐👏
