Week 1 good - but how to stay on track...

I'm the heaviest I've ever been, after a rough few years - so I have started try to take action.Week 1 - logged food every day, restarted 2 swims a week - checked before I ate - kept within calorie target - down 1.1kg - yeah!

Week 2 just started - this is where it starts going wrong - now thinking mostly about food, struggling to keep within calorie target (though still being honest and logging) ...

So many attempts I have made have gone off the rails by the end of week 2, how do I make it to week 3 and beyond this time?

Hello and welcome back, motherofboys :)

Finding a sustainable plan is what we all need, so maybe that could be the focus of your time on the forum. If you're going for counting calories, then you need to be eating enough, and getting those calories from good sources.

Maybe you'd like to join the Spring Challenge that Hopalong1 is hosting - everyone sets their own challenge as we all tackle things in different ways.

You'll find everything you need by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... and the more you join in, the more you'll get out of it. :)

Hi motherofboys and well done for sticking with it for a week and for losing 1.1kg. First to say, its not easy. How did you feel when you stepped on the scales and you had lost, just think about it for a moment and even write a note to yourself in your food log. Now, whats different this week, are you hungry, bored, craving sugar. If its hunger, maybe look at what you’re eating ( not sure what plan you’re on?). If you’re bored then find a hobby, go for a walk, play scrabble on line , go for a coffee -anything to get away from the kitchen. The suger craving is a hard one but it will pass ( thats where the willpower comes in). Focus on today - just get through today without derailing yourself and you will feel amazing tomorrow! You’ve got this x

it’s hard. Walking was and you didn’t give up after a week or 2. Unless your legs don’t work we all learned to walk. It’s all the other things in your head, the kids life etc.

What if

You just take 10 minutes out of every day and think just how important you are. Find YOU. Because you are worth losing weight for. Not you boys, your other, half YOU. I think some times we lose us .

I’m not trying to sound like a weird self help book, but until I learned to find me underneath all the other labels “wife” “mum” etc then I couldn’t stick to a diet.

I hope that makes coherent sense as I’m 4 months into a new life as a widow and brain is a bit foggy. I have quite a helpful list if you’d like it

Thanks for those thoughts - they do ring true. Getting back to swimming is a bit of finding me again. Maybe I'm in the same place, because I'm 6 months into widow-hood.

oh then maybe you are expecting too much of yourself? If you lost any it’s amazing. Try to stabilise and maintain. Drinks lots (water not alcohol) cos tears dehydrate and inbox me if it would help. Stay here, don’t leave, check in each week. We can do this you know. There is life it’s just finding it under the tears pain and sheer misery

Congrats on your progress in Week 1! As you navigate Week 2, it's common to face new challenges. Remember, setbacks are part of the journey. Focus on the progress you've made and stay committed to your goals. Identify what triggers your cravings and plan ahead to have healthy options available. Seek support from friends, family, or online communities to stay motivated. Most importantly, be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction. You've already shown great determination, and with perseverance, you can make it through Week 2 and beyond. Keep going!
