Anyone else doing regular exercise to help with weight loss? If so, what do you do? How do you keep motivated? Do you enjoy it?
For me, I've taken quite a shine to cycling and I now ride 4-7 hours a week. I really enjoy riding and have discovered "indoor cycling" where you put your bike on a turbo trainer and ride in virtual worlds using online platforms (I use Zwift). I also took up running a few months ago and try to do 1-2 runs a week.
To best show my exercise pattern over my weight loss journey, I've attached a graph showing the number of calories I've burnt (through cycling and running).

Not usually until more recently. I started pilates for pain management and mobility a few years ago and that progressed into other classes and then I ended up joining a gym... and now skip and do other cardio stuff which will be contributing towards weight loss. I love regular excersise now but need the group setting to stay motivated and I'm doing it for my short and long-term term health and well being, so that keeps me motivated as well.
I used to do a lot of cycle touring way back-and of course I was much fitter and slimmer as a consequence.I love being out in nature and on a bike you can so easily sneak up to wildlife.Alas I do not have access to a bike anymore. These days I keep a skipping rope at my door-regularly do 100 skips. .&do some walking each day.I use you tube videos for two work outs a week-usually core work with pilates. I find the trick is building up the good lifestyle habits ...any disruption to these routines is a major setback for me in re-establishing the good lifestyle habit of increased exercise so I am slowly trying to build on introducing more.I have been told it takes about 30days to develop the neural pathways in the brain for new habits. So when I have fallen off the wagon so to speak in not incorporating
exercise into my week I return to planning weekly with this 30days in mind.It looks like you are already there and have fully integrated cycling into your lifestyle.Well done!
Hi I’m 59 and recovering from a hamstring problem so I’m walking as far as I am able and doing keep fit videos. From having special help in a wheelchair at Gatwick in June ‘19 I can now walk to the next village and back 14k steps. As an ex walker that’s not much but I’m pleased. All the best with your journey 😊
I hope you'll head over to the Fit is Fun club. There's a new post each Monday morning where members chat about their activities in the previous week. New members always welcome You'll find the current one in Pinned Posts
Wow, that's a great amount of running! I would like to do more running, but i only have limited time and favour the bike.... So I usually end up going for a ride over a run, bit do make sure to do at least one 5k run a week
I redid C25k in June and have continued to run 3 times a week with distances between 5-10k. I absolutely love it,earphones in, music on ans away I go, it is doing wonders for my mental health and physical health 😊
Hi, As the days in drawing in, I am spending less time in the garden which has been my main exercise during lock down and included landscaping and some serious digging.
I start the day with half an hour yoga before working from home office. I take a half an hour brisk walk lunch time (come rain or shine). Its much less than I used to do but living in very rural area, it is difficult to fit much else in during a working day. I have purchased e-bike which is arriving in January and plan to get out on days off.
If you have a "normal" bicycle (i.e. a non e-bike), you could always look at investing in a turbo trainer, which allows you to safely train on your bike in the comfort of your own home. There's also plenty of online platforms to make it interesting, have a look into zwift:
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't have a working non e-bike. It has been 20 years or so since I have ridden bicycle although it used to be my mine source of transport when I lived in city. I live in beautiful National park though which always look good rain or shine so am sure that this will motivate me out for a ride. It is 10 mile round trip to village and I think I could do this over lunchtime.
