Can someone please advice when the new adult care costs means testing starts, with the £86,000 cap. On the NHS and some other web site it states October 2025 but on the Government web site is states it started in October 2023.
Thanks Paul

I believe this was a Boris policy due to be implemented in 2023 but COVID delayed a lot of things and this was one of them. It’s still one the table for 2025 but will they still be able to afford it then and will any potential labour government see this as a priority??? I wouldn’t hold your breath. Also this only relates to the spend on the social care element of any care package. There was a good article on the BBC website explaining it all recently. I’ll try to find it and post the link.
can’t find the BBC link but this gives a similar overview.

Many thanks for your help and link, looks like the government don't even know as on their web site says Oct 2023. Reason I'm asking is my daughter is self funding her care and wondered when her payments start being counted towards the £86,000 cap as she has already spent over £100,000 in care costs this was money her grandparents put away for her in savings, so unfair that this will not be counted towards the new cap.
Yes all the GOV.UK sites still say it will happen in 2023 😂🙄. The link I sent does suggest that you get the assessment in place so that there are records in place to show what you’ve spent ahead of the legislation being enacted. They may or may not backdate the starting point for calculating the spend and you probably already have this in place with your council, but if not it’s worth getting it in place. Good luck.
