Hi Folks hope everyone is doing ok- for anyone who dosnt know my girl Bea had puppies right at the beginning of lockdown in April due to me shielding etc Mira suffers with anxiety, she was very frightened of people and other dogs , we have been waiting for 4 months for the dog behaviourist but due to Covid the lady keeps cancelling anyway I have been working hard with Mira and we have turned a corner she is no longer frightened of people and she has stopped barking at them. Itโs still a problem with other dogs, she is still very frightened but we just take one day at a time. Here is a pic of Mira in the snow โ๏ธ yesterday, her and Bea were charging around like mad things and had a wonderful time. Have a good week folks, keep safe and warm โค๏ธ
Itโs Monthly Mira Monday ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ: Hi Folks hope... - LUPUS UK
Itโs Monthly Mira Monday ๐ถ๐ถ๐ถ

Hello.
Arhh they look so sweet. My dog Nellie hadnโt see snow before- she was so funny with it!
How did you stop Mira barking at people? It takes a lot of hard work to train them - Nellie barks at other dogs depending on their size!!
Got face to face Rheumy appointment in Bath tomorrow- wish me luck !!
Stay safe
X
Good luck for tomorrow ๐ค
Itโs been a slow process with Mira, the behaviourist over the phone told us to walk Mira in very quiet places where there are no people and dogs, this wasnโt easy as you can imagine so have been doing that for a good 8 weeks then gradually I would take her to less quiet places where there were people and before she clocked someone I would say โgood girlโ - get her to look at me and then give her a treat - weโve got through a lot of treats ๐hope everything goes ok with your appointment tomorrow, I had mine 2 weeks ago at Bristol RI, do you live in Bath? Iโm at Almondsbury xx
Thanks. Yes your training sounds similar to what Iโve been doing with Nellie- pocket full of treats๐I live in Malmesbury so not too far from you. Is Bristol RI good?
XX
Your little Nellie is gorgeous- how old is she? Yes Bristol RI is ok but think Southmead is better xx
She is 2 next month - I got her when she was about 13 weeks - cannot believe how time has flown.
Are we able to private message people on this website as could send you some photos of her.
The mineral Hospital at Bath RUH seems very good but I don't know much about the other hospitals - I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago - from out the blue and was told they would be a good choice.
Have a good week.
Kate
Lovely pic.my 2 love the snow straight down to roll.their noses work overtime too which apparently is due to scent molecules not travelling very far before they freeze ๐ง bit of useless info on a Monday morning for you lol ๐Take care have a good month xxx
Aww so nice to see your lovely doggies first thing on a Monday morning having fun in the snow๐ฅฐ๐ ๐ xx
Mira in the snow, looking so grown up. Hope her anxiety lessens. Maybe she knows about the worldโs troubles.
๐
What a fabulous image. I love their jumpers ๐Poor Mira, you have done so well to help her through her anxiety with people. Do you know it is so strange, my Dylan was always very wary of people. Anyone who came to the house he would bark and keep his distance, whereas Brodie is a real attention seeker and literally would go with anyone for a belly rub. Since Dylan has gone blind he literally has changed his behaviour completely. Now if someone comes he barks with excitement and jumps on them. I do not understand the change but I am delighted by it. He will never be as demonstrable or affectionate with others as Brodie but he is far less anxious. Xxx
Ahh bless Dylan maybe itโs because he canโt see the person it dosnt frightened him- they are strange these dogs arnt they ? Bea is so chilled out itโs unreal but Mira I donโt know think itโs all to do with the pandemic as there were no puppy classes or anything I could take her to xx
Bless her, Brodie and Dylan were attacked four times by a very large rescue dog in the next street. The owners son is a bit of a thug and when Neil got caught in the leads and went down he threatened to headbutt him. Imagine how terrified Dylan was to have a huge dog suddenly descend on him. He was screaming with fear. Brodie tried to defend him and got bitten. The fourth time Neil had a friends little cavachon with him too. The dog came racing towards them. Neil put himself in front of the dogs and the large dog jumped at him with his paws on Neils chest knocking him backwards into a wall. Neil was lying there bleeding and the owners son stood over him laughing saying f****** dogs fight mate get over it. I was so shocked when he returned with a concerned neighbour. I called the police, the dog warden, the council. They were warned to keep the dog on a lead or it would be removed and them taken to court. The owner denied that his son ever took the dog out ๐คฌ. Brodie has ever since been terrified of black and white dogs. His high pitched stress bark is heart breaking, he pants, salivates and growls. He actually now will go for any black and white dog so we have to keep him on a lead at all times. If he sees a black and white dog on the tv he goes nuts, the poor boy even reacts to black and white cows bless him . It is so sad to see and no amount of distraction, treats will ease his stress xxx
Oh that is just so awful how terrifying for your husband and poor dogs - poor Brodie trying to protect your husband too - no wonder he is frightened to death of anything black and white , some people just should not be allowed to keep dogs , what if it had been a child , I donโt think the law come down on these people hard enough - my mum once took my brothers dog out and a German Shepherd attacked my brothers dog he actually had my brothers dogs face in his mouth , a boy of about 12 was in charge of the dog , my mum screamed and screamed and eventually it let go , brothers dog had to have stitches and my poor mum to this day is so very petrified of German Shepherds, but mum reported it and nothing was done xx
Oh that is awful. The police did nothing the first twice but when my hubby had to go to A&E for bruised ribs, a lump on his head, scratch marks on his chest and a really bad graze on his arm they had to come out. Initially they tried to underplay the incident saying there was nothing they could do but when I started quoting from the dangerous dogs act they were clearly annoyed but had to react. Then they tried to guilt trip us saying the dog was a rescue and it would have to be put down if we went to court. I told them in no uncertain terms that I blamed the owners and not the dog. I went walking with Neil and the dogs on one occasion after this and the owner had to hang on to a lamp post because the dog was pulling and snarling trying to get at our dogs. I had my sticks ready but was terrified. It should be muzzled. The owner never ever apologised but strangely last week approached my husband to tell him the dog had passed away. I just hope he does not get another one xxx
Omg I will have to have a look at the dangerous dogs act as there is a lady that walks over the fields that has a German shepherd that has already attacked about 6 dogs, I was looking after my sons french bulldog- (heโs gorgeous) couple years ago and this dog went for Hugo - the woman threw herself on top of her dog to try and contain him - now Iโm a very placid person but Iโm afraid I lost ๐ก my patience with her and shouted why do you walk a dog that you clearly canโt control and she turned round and told me to f*** off - I was livid - I reported it to dog warden and they said because the dog didnโt attack me there is nothing they can do - itโs ridiculous . Howโs your Asthma been? Do hope your breathing is better for you xx
I can understand your rage I was ready to hit that dog hard if it came near my boys and I am am an animal lover. It is the humans at fault every time. The dog warden told me if a dog causes you to be afraid then it is considered a dangerous dog. Under the dangerous dog act your dog is your property so anybody or animal causing damage to your animal can be open to prosecution. I know that the police have a lot on and that it is low priority for them but for someone to be able to walk with their dog without fear of attack is important. My breathing is much better thanks for asking, I do keep having dips for no apparent reason. I am down to 15 mg steroid today so I will see how I go. I have not had to use my nebuliser for weeks but I am using the maximum dose of preventer and use my reliever four times a day. I have been having such a bad flare up of possibly Bechets for the past eleven days. It has been very painful and exhausting but at last today it is a little easier so I am very grateful. So hard when you have no definitive diagnosis so no treatment either just syringes of local anaesthetic to numb the pain xxx
Ah, lovely photo of Bea and Mira - I've missed them. You're doing really well with Mira, but I'm sure it's hard work. Do you watch Graeme Hall's 'dogs behaving very badly' on channel 5? He's soooo good at training dogs and he's very entertaining to boot. It might be a good source of tips to help Mira - and it's free!
I hope you (and your knees) are coping well in the cold conditions, xxx
๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
Thankyou Meg and hope your poor knees are copping too.
Yes we watch that program, itโs brilliant and I love how he dresses too xx
I'm in love with Graeme too!!Things are progressing slowly with a dx for my knee. Apparently, I have a deformity in my knee (?cause? maybe muscle/tendon weakness) which means I will probably have to have re-alignment surgery along with a new knee. They're currently checking for hip problems in case this is contributing to my knee pain/walking problems.
Thanks for asking
Take care and stay safe, xxx
๐
Oh no so sorry to hear that - I really hope your near the top of the waiting list for surgery so that you can for once and for all be out of pain.
I keep saying to my Fiancรฉ I think Graeme dresses so beautifully- heโs not getting the hint ๐๐๐๐ ๐
It's good news (sort of!) that they're getting to the bottom of it, at last. It's no fun being unable to walk....I'm just a bit upset/angry that my first rheumy didn't see fit to investigate further 18m ago, as this might have served to limit the amount of surgery. Sure, she took XRays of my knee, carried out a cursory examination and pronounced that I had a 'bit of OA, nothing to worry about'. I'm so grateful my new rheumy is pulling out all the stops.
I might have to fight you for Graeme's affections if we ever meet him!!
๐๐๐
Thank goodness for your new rheumy sounds so frustrating like you said if it had been investigated earlier you may not be the state you are in now . Keep warm and have just remembered I have Graeme to watch from last week that I recorded ๐๐
Lovely pic of bea and mira svfarmer. Your hard work is paying off with mira which must be heartening for you. Not easy training a dog with problems in lockdown so WELL DONE. I bet they played like mad things in the snow. I love their colourful coats. Do take care as you've had a lot of snow. Keep safe, warm and cosy. Xxโ๏ธโฃโ๏ธโฃโ๏ธโฃ
Lovely Mira ๐ always brings a smile ๐ jealous of the snow, hoped weโd get some but no ๐๐คx
Mira, you look lovely in your jumper. So does your Mum, Bea. Looks like you are enjoying the snow. Not had any in the part of Scotland I live in ๐ Very cold with a lot of ice and black ice. Gritters have been round but the salt is not good for doggies paws ๐ข Great to hear that Mira is less anxious around people. It must be hard to try and train a pup during lockdown with no or little help. Looking forward to next months pic! Xx
Aww lovely Mira the Minx ๐๐๐I miss that puppy!! ๐ถ Although she does look all grown up now so I guess she's more of a teenager than cute cuddly baby!! ๐น
Love her coat too..has mummy been knitting again? ๐ค๐๐ฝ๐ฝXx
Donโt Mira and Bea look lovely in their beautiful knitted coats? ๐ Did you make them SV? So good to see them again and to hear they are enjoying themselves. No snow here in the south of Scotland, just rain today after 3 days of freezing conditions (-5*C). ๐ฅถ Hoping you are all keeping safe and warm. ๐ค๐xx
Lovely dogs, our dog has help us so much through these lockdown they always make you smile stay safe .
