Request for Recommended Residential Care Options

Hi,

Hoping you're well.

I'm posting in the hope of getting some residential care options recommended for a friend of mine who suffered chronic brain trauma a couple of years ago.

He's been in hospital ever since and now they're looking to transfer him to residential care.

His injury has left him with limited cognition and pretty much wiped his memory, plus he lost a leg.

The limited cognition means at present the hospital has deemed him not suitable for a prosthesis - it's been a couple of years, and still the loss of a leg isn't something he's aware of.

He needs 24 Hour Watch.

I'm hoping for recommendations as to well run comfortable residential options, ideally in a quiet area with a nice garden - this will be for long term.

He does have family in London, so ideally it would be within an hour's drive of London, but all recommended options would be most gratefully received.

Hoping you can help, and wishing you all every success with the situations you're dealing with.

Looking forward to hearing from you, if not with direct recommendations, recommendation as to who I'd be best to speak to would be very much welcomed too - I'm already in touch with his social worker and the Drs at his current hospital (but they have no Discharge Coordinator).

Thanks in advance.

With very best wishes,

Sorry there's no information forthcoming Easebak. I guess care homes are chosen with particular areas and personal needs in mind. For example I know of only one as it's where my best friend's mother has lived for 18 months and seems (despite initial family scepticism) to have patient, caring staff and attractive surroundings. It's in Harrogate and possibly many miles from where you are.

Maybe Headway staff can offer more information ; they're easy to talk to and I'm sure will do all they can to advise. The helpline no. is 0808 800 2244 (freephone - office hours).

All best wishes, Cat ..
