Hi, I'm new here and thought I would give this a shot, as I feel talking to like minded individuals can help.
I have had Fibromyalgia for a number of years now.
It has caused me a number of problems, from relationship break-downs, not being able to work and mood swings, to loosing my house and terrible flare-up's.
I change med's as advised and have tried a number of alternative therapies, with little or no long-term alleviation.
I would welcome any suggestions to try and help.
Many Thanks

Hi there PPL, I can totally understand your frustration, being at the end of your tether with Fibro. is debilitating in it's self.
I completed GGC Pain Management Programme in Feb. having been referred on to it by my Rheumatologist, when I was at the end of my tether with medication and everything I had attempted. I would recommend it to anyone.
To be honest it is mainly about changing your thought process towards pain, learning and practising: focusing on your Values, Pacing activities, setting Smart Goals, Mindfulness, Guided Meditation, Positivity and a Stress Free living.
I know the above is easier said than done and It does take time and effort, and although I am still very much "Work in Progress", I am finding it extremely beneficial (I have managed to kick the heavy dose of Tramadol I had taken for far too long) .
I had the worst Flare Up ever March through to mid May, I am only now starting to feel at a base level; pain wise. On coming out of flare up, I eased myself back into domesticity (doing one chore a day) and making sure I did something enjoyable, every day (started of with some colouring in); what ever floats your boat, crossword, sitting watching the world go by with a nice cuppa. You could try easing aching limbs with an Epsom Salt bath, if heat helps you and you do not have heat pillows, you could put a damp towel in the microwave(rolled into a sausage) for a min. or two; just remember and wrap in an extra towel in case too hot. I find this is great for draping round neck/shoulders when tight/tense, also good to wrap round any area required.
I am sure you will receive some great advice from the amazing folk on here and i truly wish you some relief from your symptoms soon, try not to be too hard on yourself, communicate with those around you, they can't know how you are feeling; remember and be kind to yourself.

Hi there :). A few years ago I went to a pain management clinic, it was a three week onsite programme at a hospital and I learned a lot of strategies to deal with the pain, and help reduce it. For me, I've been through a lot of dark times with fibro but also had good times along the way. It has taken a long time to focus on the positive stuff and drop the guilt and negative thoughts that go so well with fibro pain and incapacitation. I still struggle at times (and this week is one of those times!) but I know that one day I will feel better than I do now, and I'll appreciate it when it happens. I won't feel great necessarily but I'll feel better. Pace yourself, be kind to yourself and read everything you can about this condition. Self management has been the best way to try and live with fibromyalgia. I also cut out gluten about 8 years ago and that has made a massive difference to my pain levels. Diet can aggravate our symptoms and it's trial and error to see what works.
Hi there i haven't got an answer for you love but talking to who ever hear doctor's will help its all slowly slowly you can run before you can walk like fibroska says dont be hard on yourself and i wish you luck hugs to all x
Having multiple Fractures it unleashed my Fibromyalgia leaving me in a wheelchair, my help from base levels was inconsistant so I turned to someone I knew who was a Herbalist having previously been in Orthodox medicine. I have been amazed at the help I have received from her would advise you to look around and always check them out but if o.k. give them a try.......wishing you well Medex.
