Quote: In their commentary, “Is COVID-19 a perfect storm for Parkinson’s disease?” published in Trends in Neurosciences, the researchers reviewed three cases of Parkinson’s-like symptoms appearing in people within weeks of contracting COVID-19.

Quote: While these cases, and similar reports, do not prove a connection between COVID-19 and Parkinson’s, they highlight the need for detailed record-keeping to better understand whether a relationship exists and how it might form.

If you had undiagnosed PD, it makes sense that Covid-19 could exacerbate the underlying and undiagnosed disease of PD because both operate with elevated oxidative stress and inflammation as two main driving factors, so the addition of Covid-19 will add to the total oxidative stress burden as well as the elevated inflammation burden leading to increased PD symptoms, at least temporarily. This combination of events could easily expose the undiagnosed PD due to the suddenly increased symptoms. Of course, just an unproven opinion.

I'm wondering what this means for PwP who get COVID-19.

Concerned it would accelerate progression. Good reason to be careful and stay safe.

Of course, three out of the millions of COVID-19 cases is an insignificant sample, and likely mere coincidence.
