Hi Luna0988

This is definitely a question to ask your Dr.

Hi Luna0988, Psychiatric medications often have slightly weird side effects for the first few days to a couple of weeks. Mostly these are not too bothersome and go away by themselves, but if they are making you feel much worse then it is definitely worth speaking to your doctor. X

What is interesting about mirtazipine is that the less you take, the better it helps with insomnia. So a very low dose (just a few mgs) will knock you out cold. But yes, it helps quite a bit with sleep. Certainly something you should at least consult on with a GP as our bodies all react differently. I recently started gabapentin and slept so hard I actually wet the bed....shhhhh! I'm wondering if somehow you are sleeping so hard that you may have restless leg or limbs going numb. I find this happens to me when I finally get decent nights of sleep. I just boosted up to 30 mgs and the sleep impact is reduced for me, but is helping me with depression and weight gain. The one major downside of mirtazipine is it is intended to make you hungry and often given to folks with eating disorders. I need to gain the weight so I'm ok with it, but years ago I was on it and I packed on 20 pounds in less than 2 months. Whoops! Link on dosage of mirtazipine from the NIH.

That varies by user. I am on 45 mg, which I worked up to over time, and have no problems with sleep. I take it at night to avoid daytime sleepiness.

Hi L0988.I take the same dose & have done so for months but not sure if its the case but when my diabetic nurse changed my combined insulin to 2 separate ones 1 fast acting & 1 slow but anyhoo, since I've started the new regime on Tuesday & since then I've Ben able to get some good sleep & god knows I needed it.

Keep taking them it take the body a bit of time to adjust to them, it normally take the body a few weeks for it to settle in to accepting them. If after 2 weeks you are still feeling the same contact your doctor. It is a very good medication.

Joe

Hi luna, you need to speak to your dr as you might have side affects from the mirtazapin? Not all medications are suitable. Its beed to give the dr a call!

While you may feel better quickly, it will take up to six weeks for the full benefits to take effect - and during that time you may cycle through some side effects. I take mine at night to avoid daytime drowsiness and maximize the sleep benefit. In the meantime, focus on how you are feeling better and hang in there!
