Hi Olliemonty58,
Just wanted to say hello and I’m sorry you are feeling very down, you poor thing. Do you have any upcoming appointments with your cardiologist to discuss where to go from here? Keep your chin up and take good care 😊
Thank you. I've got consultant on 25th April x
Don't be too down. We all know cardioversion is not a cure for AF but it does act as a useful signpost for future treatment. If it worked at all even only for a short time and you felt better whilst in NSR then it may suggest that ablation is the way forward for you. Had it not worked at all then this would never be tried as it would not be worth the effort. Ergo NSR even for two weeks is a great result.
Thank you. Not keen on ablation has I have heard it can be painfull x
I’ve just had my ablation 2 days ago, I had pain when getting one of the catheters in that was equivalent to a dental procedure. 4 areas were burnt and I didn’t feel a thing and two other burns were uncomfortable but again each burn was less than 5 seconds each and the pain was gone before you could really explain how it felt. The hardest part of ablation for me was conquering my fear and agreeing to have one. It’s a strange experience and nerve racking for sure but painful isn’t how I would describe it. Hope that helps x
Feeling sorry for you Olly, but ablation is not painful. That is rubbish. Keep your pecker up. The heart needs a bit of time to respond. Hang in there and keep up positive thoughts and don't get too anxious about the fact that you are back in AF.
I support Bob’s view, I have had 7 ablations and had no pain on any occasion. Uncomfortable perhaps with sedation but not always, I had GA for 4 ablations and knew nothing. Oh yes and I have had about 20 cardioversions.
The majority get relief from ablation and the successful patients I don’t think hang around here or long

I have been fortunate to have had one (so far) there was no pain AT ALL.
And it has given me my life back
I had an ablation last week and had no pain whatsoever. I really urge you to have one, if offered, for the chance of an AF free life.
Take care.
Hi. I, too, had two cardioversions last year. The first failed and the second lasted less than twelve hours. I remember feeling very down. I ended up having an ablation in September which was successful and I am still in NSR. The thought of an ablation is much more scary than the actual event although as I had a GA it was easy. I think the important thing is to have a cardiologist/EP you trust. Good luck and if they do end up recommending an ablation you will be fine. Take care.
Sorry that you are feeling so bad. I was diagnosed with AF in May 2018. I had my Ablation January 30. In between May and October I was cardio verted 10 times and it would get me back to NSR for only a short time. The EP cardiologist put me on the strongest medication Amiodarone and Pradaxa. They did help for a short time but could not hold me in NSR. I had to wait for months to have my ablation, but I can say it was so worth the wait. I now have my quality of life back and I am feeling so much better. Talk to your doctor about ablation. I was very worried to have the procedure but I would do it again without hesitation. Hope this helps. Try to stay positive. Take care
Hi. Ditto above. I had my ablation last year under general anaesthetic, as I too was nervous about the procedure. Obviously didn't feel a thing & woke up to it all having been done! Don't dismiss it as an option if you need it as it could be the answer to your problems.
I hope you feel better soon.
I'm 77 yr. female, had Cardioversion a year ago, lasted 3 min., have persistent AF, not having episodes (flutters, etc), am meditating every day (TM), going to chiro. and acupuncturist (every 10 days), did research on all 3, am overweight by 50 lbs., and would not do ablation until I lose weight (important factor), had overnight sleep test done last week (no sleep apnea), also a factor for AFIB and getting SA under control with CPAP before ablation....would have ablation if I get episodes, under GA, not sedative. Am working on losing weight.
After my third one I was free for quite a few years, if I get stressed then it kicks in . Hope you get sorted.
