fibroscan - Mmm help

had a fibroscan today, and told not good.

the 2 results

Fatty - 395 out of 400 ( not good apparently)

Hardness - 20.5 ( read in leaflet over 11 is really not good at all)

now have to wait 6-10 weeks for a follow up.

can anyone tell me in layman’s terms what the above really means??

not a heavy drinker, but my diet and processed food was mentioned!

Any advise, guidance or help to understand a bit more whilst I wait, is very much welcomed, and please say it as it is, no sugar coating or fluffy words..

in short how worried should I be, and how can I help myself?

Thanks in advance

If you want real honesty, anything over 11 is liver cirrhosis. Your liver can regenerate itself over and over again. It is the most forgiving organ in your body. In layman's terms what liver cirrhosis means is that your liver can no longer regenerate itself the way it once did so any damage is no longer reversible. If the damage continues, your liver will slowly lose the ability to perform all its 500 functions and you will see other symptoms appear like severe water retention (ascites), varicose veins inside your stomach that can rupture causing huge bleeds (varices) etc.

There are no magic pills to take, to help your liver now you need to change your diet, cut down on processed foods, reduce the salt content, get some gentle exercise. No alcohol at all. People live long happy lives with livers far worse than yours - time to heed the warning and be kind to yourself.

This forum is a wealth of stories, support and information. The BLT helpline is amazing - use the resources and STAY AWAY FROM DR GOOGLE!

Depends on the cause of the liver decease. For instance, for alcohol-induced fibrosis everything between 11 to 19 kPa is F3 fibrosis, above 19 kP a F4 fibrosis = cirrhosis. For fat-induced (non-alcoholic) liver fibrosis everything above 14 kPa is F4 fibrosis.

Good reply from RugbyMama. When you speak to your Dr they will confirm cirrhosis.

I will add that if you look after your liver you can live a normal life span but ignore the advice and your cirrhosis is likely to progress quickly and ☠️.

You will now have 6 monthly check ups.

That's because we have an increased risk of liver cancer and early diagnosis means early treatment and much higher cure rate.

Again I want to thank another legend for the hardy and straight advice and seeing the 💀 emoji should be enough for anyone to listen , as I am doing. It’s mad as I always thought my 💀 would come through my Service in the military, but , never this way, but hey I will get through it with the help of you amazing people ✊✊✊

Ditto the comments above but with one caveat. Cirrhosis begins at different numbers, depending on the cause of the disease. If you have fatty liver, the official Fibroscan chart says F4, which is cirrhosis, starts at about 12 (11.5-ish). It's really important to try to work your way back to under 11 if you can. Eating plenty of vegetables and fruits, getting exercise (as disease progresses, exercise becomes almost impossible), keeping stress low. Do a search on this website and you'll find diets people with fatty liver have used to regress their diseases. Most feature vegetables, fruits and a fish such as salmon. Here is a link to the Fibroscan chart from British Liver Trust, on this website:
