The symptoms I get when I get gastritis usually are: pain when I eat and drink, bloating, constant heartburn and burps. They are usually the main symptoms I get with it, hope this helps.

Thank you. Do you find that even when you start the medication these symptoms linger? I’m driving myself insane worrying why I’m not feeling 100% better but I think I’m expecting Omeprazole to be a magic pill lol

Yes, for me it takes about 2 weeks or so, before the double Omeprazole starts to take effect on the symptoms, so I know its hard, trust me, as I get gastritis a lot, you just have to be patient, and best advice, is take gaviscon or something for the heartburn, and to eat and drink slowly until you start to feel better. I've had gastritis on and off for the past 8 or 9 years now.

I’ve only just been told to double up so tonight I’ll be having another 20mg and they have said to try this for 7 days. Thank you for your reassuring words. I do get myself tied up in worry.

It's easily done as I am the same. It might take seven days or longer, it just depends on your own body and no worries. Hope it gets resolved for you soon.

I was eventually diagnosed with H Pylori which caused my gastritis. My symptoms were continual nausea, discomfort when eating, flatulence and burping. None of the medications really helped me but I did find Gaviscon Advance and following a bland diet relieved it. Good luck and try not to worry.

Do you have a lack of appetite too? I’m hungry but just feeling meh about more bland food I think

I am fine now and can eat normally after heavy antibiotics. At the time bland food was the only thing I could eat and I was glad to be able to eat anything. Any acidic foods made me very ill. Hope you resolve your problems.

Hi, I have had Gastritis for around 8 years and been on medication all that time, but have managed to wean down to 10mg Omeprazole daily and Gaviscon at night. Things that flare it up are; chocolate, alcohol, tomatoes, most fruits (except bananas), anything spicy, laying flat in bed and stress. Hope your medication starts to work soon. It can take a week or so to see better results.

I didn’t realise it was something that can stay in your system? Does it just flare up occasionally? Can you live a normal life most of the time ?

Hi. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining. It can be quite mild when it’s first discovered and meds can help control it getting any worse. Diet also plays a big part, avoiding fried or spicy food and sometimes alcohol also.

I’ve had it quite a few times since getting it in 2017 really bad. It just seems to get worse every time or it could be that it’s harder to fight the older I get. I get pain after EVERYTHING that I eat. At one point even sips of water hurt. The last time I cured it by using PepZinGI (which is zinc) and after 3 months it was healed. I’m hoping it works this time too as I am in a lot of pain. Can’t sleep much and when my stomach gets out of whack this bad, I start to get depressed. They say our stomach is our second brain. I hope yours is not this bad. Be careful if they put you on ppi’s as the higher the dose the harder it is to get off of them. I’ve been taking Pepcid for 6 weeks and tried to wean off with severe pain. I will have to go slower I guess. Geeze, I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

I agree that the stomach feels like the second brain. this is driving me insane and causing my anxiety to sky rocket. Do you find some days are better than others no matter what you do? Today is a bad day for me. The pain between the ribs is back and a burning throat and nausea. I need to be off Ppi for 2 weeks to have a hypylori test. Do the doctors tell you why it keeps coming back? It’s so rubbish :(

Me 2. My anxiety is super high. Feel very weepy a lot of the time and can’t stand to be in the dark. Doesn’t help that I;m going through the change of life too. If I take enough Pepcid I can have a good day but I;m trying to get off of them because the longer I take them the more I will have to take and I’ve already been on them for 6 weeks or so. I, like every one else think that I actually have low acid, not high. What do doctors know? Have you tried charcoal tabs? I use them whenever I get pressure building or if I feel overly acid. They absorb it like a sponge . Charcoal will also help with burning throat and nausea. Just don’t use with other meds. 2 hours before or 2 hours after. Great stuff. You can also get slippery elm losengers that would help with the burning throat. Ginger suppositories will help with nausea and bypass the stomach so it’s a win win. Not sure why it keeps coming back but it might be because when I start feeling better I cheat with foods that I know I shouldn’t and then I relapse. No fool like an old fool. I hope something here helps you. I hate to see anyone suffering like me.
