Foot drop

Has anyone with foot drop found a shoe type that works well? The shoe on my foot drop foot always scraps and wears out before the other one. Any suggestions??

recently heard cadence shoe helped people with foot drop. I don’t know much about it. Check it out?

Not cheap but I got a pair and they are amazing. Standing up in them is a challenge for me but once I get up and going they work great. BTW I have footdrop in my right foot and hip flexor problems in my left leg and they help with both. Here’s a link to a podcast that gives more info

I'm considering the Cadence sneakers. As Corran731 said they're not cheap but worth a try!

I used at one point a thin metal plate under my foot that had a metal part that went up the back of my leg about one foot. I wore it in my normal shoe. This presented my foot from dropping. I think it was called an AFO.

Yes it is called an AFO (ankle foot orthotic) and this sounds like the one I have called a walk on flex. I also have the Xtern AFO that attached to the outside of the shoe which makes it easier when walking on uneven ground because your foot can mold to the ground. The Xtern doesn't provide as much lift though. They are both for milder foot drop. Seeing a physical therapist and orthotics specialist will help determine the best AFO for your needs. At home I walk around in socks so my foot slides across the hardwood floor.

I haven't tried any special shoes but now only buy shoes that lace up so the AFO can fit easier.

I hear you. I too walk around with socks on in the house. I have a never ending supply of socks!! I'm easy to buy for.😂

There’s no special shoe that will help but I stretch out a lot and take Ampyra which helps . I also walk a lot to make my muscles move. It sux to be walking through a parking lot and have to grab a cart just to walk normally! Hope this helps!

I took my ‘foot drop shoe’ to a shoe repair shop and had a dark piece of felt sewed onto the front half of the sole. The felt allows the front of the shoe to glide along when the shoe is dragged. It also prevents the stumble I was experiencing when the toe of the shoe caught when walking.

I never considered that. It is sown on the outside of the shoe?
