Lost Mojo... if found please return ASAP

I am reaching out to you lovely people to help me find the mojo that has been missing for weeks! I desperately need it back as I have 4 weeks until the wedding and Operation Fabulous has lost it's way๐Ÿ˜

There are any number of reasons/ excuses I could rattle off, but that won't help this damsel in a little bit of a pickle ( I'm not too distressed... YET)

I haven't been participating in the forums and challenges that I join, nor have i been calorie counting or doing LCHF and yet I know that doing either of those things will certainly help enormously, so why am I not doing what I know works?

I have been running, but not the amount or the mileage that I had been doing ( in fairness to me, I have had a niggle in my shins following a fall )

Advice ( or a massive kick up the a$%e) would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm new here, but not to the weight loss arena. I hope you won't mind me offering some advice!

I've recently taken the standpoint that it's more important to establish healthy daily habits than it is to reach a certain number on the scale. The latter will come eventually if you continue the former.

However, it seems like you're preparing for a wedding and as such, maybe you need to reach a certain size to fit your dress correctly, I don't know. If that is the case, I'd recommend trying to eat high protein and take up strength training as an effective way to tone up. Definitely don't cut carbs completely though, you need that energy to get through all the organising etc! Also, hydration is super important and will ease any water retention, which can cause belly bloat.

I don't know if this helps, but if you have any specific concerns you want to share, you might get more helpful responses to those.

Thank you , the forming of daily habits is a good idea and I am concentrating more on the holistic approach of how I am feeling ( less bloating, more energy and an improved mood) as a guide rather than the numbers on the scales.I am yet undecided on which route to go down, I have done both calorie counting and LCHF in the past. I'm going to have a think today and make a plan.

I do know that I am going to give it my all and start that with a run this morning ๐Ÿ˜Š

Dear siggie,

I hope you'll take my response in the way it's intended, as a positive way forward. In the whole scheme of things, 4 weeks is just a drop in the ocean and it should be possible for you to take strict action to change your negativity and lose a few pounds before your daughter's wedding. I know it'll make you feel a million dollars.

When I joined this forum, I decided I was going to go all in, because I couldn't continue fooling myself any longer. I started calorie counting, as I had done in the past, but I knew it just wasn't sustainable for me - it's sooooooo boring! I discovered LCHF which, as Goldilocks said, was just right. I'm not suggesting the same would be true for you, or anyone else, but it's important to find the right way forward and stick with it.

We have all probably come up with all the excuses under the sun, I know I did, but that's what addicts do. Alcoholics, smokers, junkies can all find reasons why it would be impossible to give up their drug of choice, but they're lucky, they don't need any of their vice to survive, we do! We have to eat, or we'll die! However, there are a lot of things we can give up, without adversly affecting our health. We don't need chocolate, we don't need cake, we don't need biscuits, in fact there are dozens of things we don't need, but we still find reasons to eat them. No matter how sad, lonely, stressed, angry, or celebratory we feel, we don't need them and any lift they give us is fleeting and is usually followed by hours/days/weeks of self-flagellation. For 15 months I gave up, completely, cigarettes, alcohol, sugar, grains, rice, root veg, legumes, pulses, fruit (other than berries) and all processed food (including seed oils, margarine/spreads, sauces, low fat products). I also did intermittent fasting (nothing to eat between 6pm and 12 noon, not even milk/cream in tea and coffee). I didn't die, in fact my health improved a thousand fold and I lost over 7 stone. In that time I rewired my brain and made new habits. 8 years on I still remember them and although I'm not as strict as I was then, the habits haven't changed.

Make yourself a plan and stick to it.

1. You don't need email alerts to tell you when to log onto the forum, you should be doing that as a matter of course. You should be here at least once a day, immersing yourself in community life. Make sure you log onto the Weigh-in, Daily Diary, Challenge and Fit is Fun Club regularly - every day!

However, it would also be a good idea to inform HU of your email glitch and get it fixed.

2. Choose which method you're going to use, eg LCHF (aim for under 50g carbs per day and only get those carbs from fresh food, ie meat, fish, eggs, dairy, vegetables, berries), calorie counting, or whatever.

3. Clear your cupboards/fridge/freezer of anything that doesn't fit the bill, including alcohol. If you can't bring yourself to throw it away, ask others to store it for you temporarily.

4. Tell everyone this is what you're doing, so that they don't inadvertently make things difficult for you by encouraging you to eat/drink anything you've decided to give up. If possible, recruit others to do the same as you and work together.

5. Aim to get at least 30 mins of exercise every day and stick to it rain, or shine and if injured, find a different exercise that you can do.

6. After the wedding you can decide on your long term plan.

Remember, if someone offered you a line of coke, a heroin wrap, a joint, would you say "Oh yes, one won't hurt and I deserve it because I've had a bad day/it's my birthday"?

Wow moreless that's quite a health kick programme, you should be marketing it! I've never likened my chocolate 'addiction ' to a line of coke or a heroin shot - yep I can see it, I don't need the chocolate but I crave it. Its a crave I really struggle to get control of. Going through your list of foods you gave up, I do eat a lot of root veg, not necessarily potatoes but carrots, parsnips, sweet potato, I do a lot of veg tray bakes. I perhaps should cut back on these.Thanks for the signposting! And good luck with the mojo hunt Progressoverperfect! Hope all goes well with the wedding.

Hey DDJ, you don't have to give up your tray bakes, i do them with onions, mushrooms, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, celeriac, green beans, cabbage and probably other stuff i can't think of off the cuff :-) xx

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply, the advice and the kick up the a@#e required๐Ÿ˜ŠI was a smoker but had my last cigarette over 15 years ago๐Ÿ˜Š so I do know I have the strength and ability to do it.

I will have a conversation with those close to me who will support my efforts and I know will encourage me in every way they can and bite the bullet. I need to have faith I'm myself.

I have decided I won't weigh myself, but use how I feel as a guide.

The analogy of an addict has certainly hit the message home and you're quite right, I don't need the unhealthy foods or that one last beer.

When I look back to when I started my journey in 2020, I had a very frank and open conversation with my GP about my unhealthy habits, he suggested the NHS 12 week programme and I discovered this fabulous forum.

I'm going to think back to the determination I felt back then and the positive things that happened. Including in that, my discovery of my love of running. I never thought I could run 5 yards but I've run 16.2 miles,.

I've done ir once and I will do it again๐Ÿ˜Š

I can absolutely identify with everything you've said Progressoverperfect . I am in the same situation. Having lost almost 2.5 stones and maintained the loss for two years I've just lost the will to keep going. I'm kind of on a self destruct that I can't stop. I know exactly what I should be doing but somehow can't do it.

I also have a wedding coming up in July. I want to look fabulous at it as I know an ex of mine will be there. That also is a stupid reason for a happily married 74 year old woman, but I still have my vanities, but it doesn't seem to be a good enough incentive.

It isn't as if I'm going mad stuffing my face I've only made small changes to my weight loss plan to maintain, but now it doesn't seem to be working.

If you find the answer let me know.

I am with you on your search, as are so many of us who are and have been, where you are right now!! Break the four weeks down, be honest about what is achievable and shout loud to us what you are doing, we will sympathise (to a point) encourage and cheer you all the way, or weigh whichever you prefer.

It's a busy couple of weeks with the wedding round the corner, and I'm sure you've got lots on and emotionally it must be so exciting as well. thank you, I have had a much better week, though I haven't managed to get out for a run for a multitude of reasons. I am following LCHF and have done quite well so far. Yesterday was a blip but we are allowed them and I'm not letting it get me down.
