Yesterday, I went to my first proper do since starting this chapter of my journey. I'm following mfp, so I did stick to my diary as much as possible. Opted for gin and slim instead of bottles of strawberry cider, which would be my usual choice. Buffet wise, I swerved the homemade pie and quiches, went for a few sarnies chicken satays and stuff like cheese an pickle (did enjoy a bit of popcorn too) . Also, people telling me life is for living! Yes i know and I'll live a lot happier when my health is better 5 stone lighter (fingers crossed 1 day), am I going to do this everytime, maybe not but I know there's a plan if I need 1 . So today I feel great the journey is far from over but I survived my first blowout. Enjoy the sunshine all , much love MM xx

Hats off to you MaidMarion, your choices sound perfectly enjoyable.

I don’t know what it is about people who sort of encourage you to fall off the wagon. I get it now if I go out and don’t drink, “you can always leave your car and get it tomorrow “ etc. I think some friends don’t like the idea of someone restricting themselves, although I’m not sure all motives are so kind, and some just don’t like the thought of us succeeding 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m now 4 stone lighter than when I started, so it definitely is possible if you stick to your plans.

Enjoy the journey 😊

I know what you mean people always have their say for everything I think I'm learning to ignore them. You lose weight then its ooh you look ill. Your journey and a few others on the forum are my inspiration. One cousin did say I look happier than she's seen me in a long time, I'm making big choices in life at the moment and I'm looking forward xx

I once had someone say that if I lost weight I would look old. Well, I look old anyway so it won't make any difference to the wrinkles will it. Some people are just so stupid!

Well done for making good choices at the 'do'. Yes, people often have opinions whether they've been asked for them or not and some of those opinions can be very negative. Of course life is for living so I like your philosophy in saying that you will live a lot happier when you are lighter and your health is better. I will remember that one ready for the next time someone makes a negative comment to me.

I remember about ten years ago when I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and advised by the specialist nurse to lose weight and get some exercise. I got stuck in, ate wisely, exercised diligently and lost two stones. My next door neighbour (at the time as I have since moved) got quite nasty about it. A so called friend kept giving me boxes of chocolates and trying to persuade me to eat them although I kept refusing. Both these people were well overweight themselves and, because they couldn't or wouldn't do something about their weight, they tried to sabotage my efforts. It made them feel better about themselves although they didn't succeed and I reversed the pre-diabetes.

I have read about people like that though. It can apply to anything in life. They get so jealous of other peoples' success that they will try to sabotage their efforts rather than looking to see what is wrong with their own attitude.

Just carry on as you are doing, all power to you, and know you will get the support without the negativity on this site. Best wishes.

Thank you so much RofD. I think we've all got people in our lives who just can't be happy for us or anybody lol. Well done on reversing your diagnosis too. Yes keep thatvin mind for a negative comment. No more brushing under the carpet just sweep them straight to the gutter now xx

Other family members of mine need to look at themselves when they comment . When you ask why have they said anything ,they always reply "I didn't mean it like that " What did they mean it like ?

I always say if you ask for advice then expect any answers rather than people just coming out with hurtful comments.

Have a lovely week ahead RofD,

Gary

Great will power MM, I always wonder why others are keen to voice opinions even when they are not asked for.I get " he's on that stupid diet " and " it won't last long "

Well done MM,

Gary

How many of those people who make negative comments to you are overweight themselves? See my more detailed reply to MM above.

Well done MaidMarion! You made sensible choices but still had a great time, enjoyed lots of food and didn't feel hard done by having delicious yet healthier food. It wasn't like you stuck to the celery sticks was it? It is sometimes really hard to work out what to say. After all if we were to go out and say we only eat halal or kosher, nobody (hopefully) would try to persuade us otherwise. I know someone who thinks he knows more...and he is always telling his vegan friend that honey doesn't count. NOT his decision. Be strong and hopefully I will be strong and we will celebrate those wins together!

Well done Parties visit it to restaurants eating out in general are tricky

I am currently on holiday and have little control of what is on the menu! As staying with family!

Chocolate is my biggest weakness and thus far it hasn’t bothered me but then I am drinking small beers which I wouldn’t normally do! So I now next Monday morning weigh in will not be good but it’s the last one until November!

Keep making the best choices and the most of any thing that’s on your plan! Well done

Hi MaidMarion, well done on your choices. I wonder about people's motives when they know you are trying to loose weight but encourage you to eat the wrong things. My sister was always smaller than me and when I started to loose weight in the past she was always offering me cakes and biscuits, untill my friend asked her why 'is it because she is prettier than you' of course that was a long time ago but it did stop her.

Morning RofD 100% right, I think some people don't do it out of malice they're just "I love you as you are" but then some are just grrr. Thank you for the share have a lovely day xx

What a positive post . Swaps and tweaks make it easier to do this as a lifestyle choice . It is also what it does to you physically and internally such as my knees and hips don’t bare as much weight . Psychologically to buy clothes I like . Feeling of confidence in a job interview as a then 59 year old in a world of cheap apprentices and selling myself . I felt better actually looking the part in terms of being able to work 10 hour shifts running around after children . Yes I could have done it 18kg heavier but trying to convince that to an interview panel ? My wrinkles are part of me as I see the “ celebs “ with stretched faces, ballooned lips and no smile then give me natural aging any day .
