Working from home the weight has piled on I find myself actively avoiding any face to face meetings. I am only happy for people to see my face. I resist any social interaction spending lots of time, thinking up excuses why I can't go.

I struggle to walk more than 50 metres, am breathless and unhappy, avoiding family friends and spending most of my time alone in one room.

And the worst thing is that I have done this to myself I feel so selfish when I see all the hardship & illnesses that people have to struggle with.

I feel ashamed.

As always we find that participation is the key to success. The Daily Diary and the weekly Weigh In are very good places to begin.

Working from home has been a disaster for many of us. Well done for walking those 50 meters, I'm sure i you keep it up the 50m will become 60m then 70m and so on. We all have to begin somewhere.

Have you decided on which plan to follow for your weight loss journey? Counting calories or something else. Here are a couple of ideas: The 1st is eating healthily

The 2nd is a slightly different approach:

Good luck 🍀

Ahhh Pampass I really feel for you, you shouldn't feel ashamed of yourself, the home working is and will be a challenge for so many. Small steps - try to work on not having the goodies in the house, if they're not there you can't eat them. Try to work towards incorporating an increasing amount of exercise into your day, as Tabby has said the 50m will soon become 60 and so on, exercise and open air can have such a positive effect on our mental health. And try wearing things you feel better in.

All these little steps will help to improve your self esteem which has obviously taken a real downturn. This is about you, don't worry about what others will think. Accepting that it won't be an overnight fix is important. And keep on logging on here, we're a very supporting bunch who have all been where you are at the moment! Good luck I look forward to hearing your progress, you can do it!

Hi I am new here and I feel your pain, but please do not feel ashamed

I am also working from home since lockdown and have been into work about 8 times this year (sounds a lot but not when I used to be in 5 days a week, must admit I don't miss the travelling, fuel costs and parking costs)

I barely see anyone face to face these days, and it has gotten harder to actually kick myself out the front door to actually meet people in person, I am fine if anyone pops round here or if I go to a friends, but to go out to a pub / restaurant nah (I used to go at least twice a month before lockdown, but now it's I am comfy in my baggy trousers and slobby top, the thought of putting work clothes on or dressing up puts me off)

I have decided that I have to change this and so have joined here to start to lose weight and get myself back out into the world (I am still apprehensive re COVID ) I am going to have to force myself to get some sort of life back except work)

I will be looking around the forum for a while and have decided that I will start the weight loss journey in January - plan to weigh in on 1 January and really give it a good go

So Pampass - I look forward to hearing from you and hoping that we can both have a positive attitude to make changes for our own good and motivation - I am hoping that in the next few weeks you have increased that 50m, I am spurring you on :)

Hi PediPaws, we’re looking forward to seeing you here too.

Working from home has had similar effects for lots of us, not just the change in routine, extra stresses of the worry of being in amongst others because of the increased risk of infection but the reduction in exercise too (it’s amazing how many extra steps you can clock up in the workplace).

It sounds like you know how to have a look around the forum, but I’ve attached a link to all our live groups here:

You’ll see a great range of opportunities to share ideas and the peer support is amazing.

Joining in really does help towards weight loss success, so good luck and see you here soon 😊

Thanks for the welcome and the link, I don't normally post on a forum the day I join as I like to look around first to get a feel for it first

I have been reading the daily diary and getting some ideas

I totally get the work from home thing, it feels like a hideout where no one has to see the weight I gained! But then when I do go out I feel very self conscious these days.

Start small, if you can walk 50m then do that, gradually build it up or do it a few times within the day. Make a note of what you’re doing so you can get encouragement from your progress. While you’re not able to walk as much you can still make a big impact with your diet, that’s where you can get the wins until you’re able to walk further. Keep your head up, you can do this.
