Another Newbie here

Well since I signed up here several days ago, all I have done is eat…eat the stuff I shouldn’t eat and anything else. I am totally stressed out with the Ukraine / Russian conflict and am not sleeping because if it. Also, I think if we’re all about to be nuked to death then why do I need to lose weight? Not a productive thought pattern, but non the less, the truth of my current mental state.

Crochet is occupying my time, along with Spring Cleaning my home and a daily dog walk but even though I don’t simply sit and eat, I do find time to stuff my miserable face. Ain’t life great? I hear on LBC this morning we are about to return to the 1970’s….my second childhood then 😆

How do you change your thought patterns and thereby your eating habits?

Hi CrochetRuth. Another way of looking at life is that each day we have, we need to be grateful for, and if we can do our best to keep healthy, we will enjoy those days more. Don’t watch the news if it worries you, as there is nothing you can do to change things other than donate to voluntary causes. Try and join a crochet group or a dog training class so you can meet like minded folks to chat to, it will help your anxiety which is driving you to comfort eat. Hope you start to feel more positive soon!

I love your picture! I'm presuming that's all your own work?

The world does feel to be in a right old state doesn't it, and of course the stress that comes with that can trigger eating patters we'd prefer not to have.

You have joined a wonderfully supportive forum though, and hopefully, engaging here will help you. We have lots of different groups, events and challenges that you can join and participate in. where you will find support and encouragement. Participating in the Daily Diary and Weigh Ins can be particularly helpful in keeping members on track, or getting them back on there.

Hi CrochetRuth. Reading your post made me smile because I feel exactly the same. I joined again 2 weeks ago and feel like I have a self destruction button because all I want is sweet things and can't stop the cravings whatever I do. I stopped watching the news because it plays on my mind to where I was dreaming that Putin was living in my house. I have the same mindset as you thinking what s the point if we are waiting for him to finish us all off. 🤔

Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes, my crocheting but from a pattern I purchased. I will have a better look around this site today… I find it very confusing but guess I will get the hang of it soon enough.

Good morning CrochetRuth, and welcome to this wonderful forum. Sorry to hear that you have been struggling. This is only my second week on here, and on my healthy regime, and the support and advice on here has been second to none. I battle with my own mental health issues and last year decided that I am no longer going to watch the news or read a newspaper because it was stressing me out so much, which leads to comfort eating, and since doing so my anxiety levels have gone down. Whatever is happening in the world is still going to happen wether you know about it or not so try and ignore the rest of the world's problems and concentrate on yourself 😃
