I need help & advice to see where I am going wrong, I have never been on any fad diet & due to lockdown I let my fitness & eating slip so now I weigh 11st, I'm 5ft 1in aged 72. I gave up alcohol 1st January, I don't eat bread, potatoes. I restarted my fitness regime (gym 3 x weekly & brisk walk 3 x weekly) I count calories relying on my fitbit app which gives me the calories but, I decided to go on slimfast321 plan as the calories are counted for me so I definitley know my daily calorie intake, I lost 2lb last week but, this week nothing. I know it's early days so do I stick with it, there are so many myths about losing weight & I know most of them.

No need to worry about calorie count and fat related thing. Please take less amount of food at night time. Drink plenty of water in the morning time. Do some simple workout regularly. This will surely help you.

Thank you for your reply I don't drink much water so I will try to increase that, I brisk walk 3miles 3 times weekly with the hope to get back into jogging so I can start park runs again, I go to the gym 3 times a week 15 - 20 mins on treadmill then rowing machine, bike & weights & other apparatus about 50 mins in all. You would think the weight would fall off !!

Hi Kbed,You are not alone, I am 70 and honestly it seems harder to loose weight ascwevget older, although I am physically fit and do exercise it seems cruel that I AM now doing 800 calls a day to loose weight, however we must focus on the immense benefits and stay focused.

We will do it, small chunks and focus.

Hi kbed! You seem to have it pretty organised to me, exercise & your healthier eating regime. I'd echo what's been said about drinking more water, has so many benefits. Also - sadly - I'd echo what's been said about the older you are the harder it is to lose weight. I'm 65 now, yoyo dieter ALL my life. I started this particular weight loss 2 yrs ago, I had lost 2.5 st but over Xmas, and with not that much over indulgence, I put the half stone back on and am now struggling to lose that. In my head I still have 2st more to go. Biggest battle is with what's in your head! so I'd take advantage and plug on whilst you're feeling motivated. There will be times when you've done everything right but the scales don't budge. Those are the times when you just need to plug on through it.

Good luck, Forum members are here for you!

Hi, I am in the same boat and have drastically cut my calorie intake and using meal replacement bars for a couple of months. I know this works as it has worked in the past and as I work from home, I ensure that I take at least 30 mins exercise each day and drink at least 8 pints of water (i keep bottle on my desk). I have slipped into bad habits of snacking and biscuits at night so keeping to meal replacement bars keeps me focused. I have also started knitting jumper for hubby and that keeps my hands busy at night. It is all in the head but I am sure you can do it. This forum is a fantastic source of support.

Try watching (or listening to) Dr. Jason Fung online...any of his podcasts or videos. He does a good job of explaining WHY we get fat. You don't have to subscribe or buy anything, because all his talks are free. When you understand the physiology behind weight gain, it's easier to understand how to lose it.

And it's not your fault.
