Feeling Hopeless

Summer_Daze profile image

I’m so frustrated with the lack of progress I am seeing. Feeling really disheartened about my weight loss journey at the moment. I’ve tried keto. Intermittent fasting. Calorie deficit. I’ve had a PT I’ve been to the gym I use an online programme and I just seem to always sit at the same weight. I feel like I’m not good enough. Like my husband deserves more. That I deserve more but I’m stuck.

I know I just have to persist but yeh needed to vent it out.

Hi Summer_Daze and welcome to this amazing forum. I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app because the App will soon be disactivated.Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts,

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Looking at your post you have tried a lot of different things. I do wonder if you have tried any of them for long enough for your body to sort itself out before you move on to something else.

Maybe you have and I'm talking rubbish but maybe you need to choose one eating plan that's enjoyable and one exercise routine and stick with just those for say a month or so. All of the things you describe can work. But none of them are instant fixes.

Your very right I think I wanted instant results and I always knew that wasn’t the case. I’ve decided to do a clean eating calorie deficit with a gym work out minimum of 1hr and 30 a week to start then binding that up

I admire your courage for being open and honest about how your feeling. You have that in abundance.. given time you will hit your goals. Took me decades to get this fat gonna take few years to get back to healthier level of fat...

When in the doldrums I just review of why I started and what has been achieved.. be it walks meal prep, non food rewards etc. I look to what few things I did ok and try and learn from how they worked for me ... and why things that on paper should be great just don't fit in with me at that time. (The thing's do and did work just I wasn't ready to commit to them on first few goes so I just plodded along till I was ready to do them)

So sorry you are feeling this way. I'm going to suggest some very ordinary, quite obvious, commonsensical stuff.

Until your happy determination has kicked in for you on a regular and consistent basis, try a few months of gently ambitious changes, rather than seismic revolutions that are for you, at the moment, just too grim to persist with:

Look at what you are buying in your shopping trolley. Avoid ready meals, takeaways, frozen fast food, pies, sweets, soda drinks and biscuits etc. If those have been a regular part of your fare, take it down from most days to weekends only, and then in moderation. You're much more likely to keep to a new regime if you are kind to your addictions (we all have them) and treat yourself occasionally. When you are having 'do without days', those things should not be in the house at all. Chuck them away if you have to, but get rid. Saturdays and Sundays you let go a bit with the family, but that's it.

Darling, what do you mean by your husband deserving better? If he really loves you, he will want a happy, at-peace woman who feels and shows joy and love. You don't owe him anything but love and respect, and he owes you that too. If he wants to help you, he can do the new regime with you. Believe me, that makes the world of difference when you have family on-side.

There are lots more informed than I who will help you with specific dieting on this forum. My small contribution is that in my experience 'slow and steady wins the race'. Treat yourself sometimes. Avoid all those supermarket aisles offering you brightly packaged carp. Believe in yourself. You can do it.

Happy Sunday. Betty x

Hi Summer, this worked for me, cut out all the rubbish, ie cakes biscuits sweets chocolate bread, i ate a small amount of cereal, tea or coffee, lunch a few rivitas with a low calorie spread and salad go easy on the cheese, tea time was usually fish and half a pack of microwave rice or chicken and rice flavoured with a small amount of sweet chilli sauce and a glass of water, snacks apple or banana or maybe low calorie yoghurt, this is as well as walking nearly every day for an hour a day at least, this would be a good starting point as time goes on you will get used to the potion sizes and try other things, sorry I forgot to add do use veg as well with the meals, ie cauliflower broccoli steer clear of to many potatoes. Why not give it try, you should lose at least a 1lb and 2lb a week. I was 17stone 10lb and now i am 15 stone 3 lb I started in April until now, look I know there is lots of great info on this website, it’s just this has worked for me, i just wish you luck, don’t beat yourself up and start a fresh. Warm regards, Martin.

Hi! I hope you're feeling better ❤

Weight loss is a slow and steady process. I saw that you tried many things, have you tried them for over 6 months and didn't saw any result or for just a short period?

I'm asking because if you're in deficit for over 6 months and haven't lost any gram, you might have a hormonal issue (that's how my mom found out her hypothyroidism) or you might have hit a plateau. A check up with the doctor is always welcomed.

Another thing to consider is if you aren't losing or if you aren't losing as fast as you want. There's no miracle with weight loss and that's why consistency is important.

Try to stick to a meal plan that you feel comfortable with for at least 6 months and notice how you and your body feels. Have patience and everything will fall into place.

Now let's talk about you feeling that you're not good enough and that your husband deserves more. You're enough. Your husband loves you and you deserve to be loved. You deserve to feel comfortable and happy at your current weight.

Have you tried therapy? If you're dealing with low self esteem and body image, losing weight won't solve it. A couple of pounds more or less don't define your worth as a person.

Happy journey and remember that doesn't matter what anyone says, you're enough 💞

Hi, thank you for your message.Usually I try each for around 3 months. I have tried speaking with a dr as I also have thinning hair so I did consider hormonal complications as an addition but unfortunately everything is over the phone at the moment and it’s hard to see anyone face to face.

In regards to my low mood and self-esteem I had therapy earlier this year and was diagnosed with health anxiety and OCD however they didn’t feel it was enough so I’m on a waiting list for high intensity therapy but it’s a long wait. This doesn’t directly relate to my self esteem but I find if I’m stressed they all interlink. I’m having an extra bad week in that department and it’s impacting my self esteem this week.

Thank you for reaching out
