It’s not working

So start of week 3 and I’m just piling on the pounds. I get so disheartened. Unless I use a very restricted diet ie shakes I just can’t seem to lose weight. The minute I start eating proper food the weight just goes on. Does anyone else have this problem and have the resolved it?

Hello and welcome Beaham,

The sad truth is that any very restrictive 'diet' will help you to loose weight, but it is not sustainable, so the weight will always go back.

Loosing weight is more about finding an eating plan that you can live with for life, not short term.

Maybe you would find this helpful,

I would suggest you go to the Daily Diary and have a good read through and see what other's are doing.

All of there information that you need to navigate the forum is here in Pinned Posts

My answer is exercise . Once I have made effort -a walk, indoors via You Tube then I won’t want to eat . I have burnt the calories. A hot fruit tea and that’s all

Above all, don't despair, Beaham.

A lot of factors come into play - how much you have to lose, what you are eating as well as how much, exercise, any other health conditions you might have etc etc.

Lots of us struggle but it is possible to make progress if you arm yourself with the knowledge that you need. Your body is subject to the same scientific rules as everyone else - you are not an alien life form. (I hope.)

Have you worked out your current body mass index (BMI)? Google NHS BMI, it does the calculation for you and helpfully also tells you a healthy weight range for your height and how many calories you should be eating each day in order to lose weight. That's a good starting point for a daily plan. My experience was that I lost weight when I planned meticulously and weighed my ingredients just to make sure.

The response from lucigret has given you good advice about how to get the most from the forum - I hope you will join in with the Daily Diary at the very least, I have always found it helpful (and I am not just saying that because I host it on Sundays ...!)

Good luck and stick with it.

Welcome to the forum :)

It's hard to make any specific suggestions without know what food you eat. I can only say that there are many members here who have lost huge amounts of weight by eating food. You will see them and can chat to them on the Daily Diary, following the link lucigret has given you to Pinned Posts. Maybe it will give you a different slant on "healthy eating"

It’s hard when nothing seems to change, but keep going. Perhaps revisit portion sizes and substitute ingredients that don’t for with your plan. Good luck!

My advise would be to maybe make smaller changes over a long period of time. For example if you eat let's say chocolate everyday of the week maybe you could cut it down to eating it 6 days a week for a month and then cut it down to 5 days for a month etc. When it comes to exercise maybe ease into it by doing 10 or 15 minutes 3 days a week then when you are ready up it to 4 days and when you reach how many days you want to exercise maybe up the time by 5 minutes every week or so until you have reached the time you want to exercise. Do it slowly. It is better for long term and don't cut out treats altogether maybe just once or twice a week to have something look forward too. Restrictive diets in my opinion don't work in the long term
