What do you do if you relapse on bad habits?

I just relapsed now on my sugar addiction. I don't know what to do, I just keep feeling and wanting to put this horrible food in my mouth with no respect for my body? What do you do if this happens? I just want to get back on track.

Hi Karalin- are you going through a bad time in another area of your life that's making you want to stuff sugary things? there are times for me when im stressed at work that make me crave something sugary which then makes the stress worse! my bad time is about 4pm and I prowl the school looking for choc or biscuits🙄 I've got better in that I walk around, then I walk around again and I often find I can talk myself out of it. At home the trick is not to have them in the house. easy for me cos there's only OH and myself but tricky if you have the family to cater for. Sometimes nothing works and I give in, but try and minimise those nothing works times and work on the times when you can walk away. We all have to find our ways of minimising/coping. Good luck!

It's a difficult one. For me, I don't find it helpful to find of myself as having an addiction to sugar. I went 4 months without binges and started that by having a week where I ate what I wanted but didn't binge and had a hot choc after dinner then brushed my teeth. I've found Jan and Feb quite tricky (hit and miss) so I've decided to take one day at a time, go back to that one routine of having a hot choc and brushing my teeth, and am trying to be more mindful of my thoughts/urges... I was such a grump last night! 😆

Hi Karalin I keep eating a sweetie and then once I have done that I will have another and maybe even another! Yet the fruit is there, the dried fruit and nuts too!!! Then I bemoan and I know why I haven't lost any but put on. Today is a new day and I am focusing on what I want the scales to say at the end of this week and I will resist!

Hey Karalin, I really feel for you right now, it's painful when we think we are doing really well and then fall off the wagon and do something we regret like bi geing. You are an amazing person for getting this far and you will be able to overcome this. This is something I'm working with too and I've found the most important thing for me is to actually love myself while I'm eating whatever I'm choosing to eat because when I do this I find that I can stop otherwise the hatred and self loathing that arises feeds the emotions that are causing me to comfort eat in the first place and then I need to eat more to overcome that which is an ever escalating state. ❤️ If for you, like me, this is a regular habit it may take some time with lots of opportunities to practice forgiving ourselves and moving on but it is definitely possible.
